Best/Worst Origin?

I really liked the human noble and dwarf noble stories. The human noble in particular ties into the main story well and it was pretty epic finally getting revenge on Howe. Same goes for the confrontation with your brother as the dwarf noble. Both really cool showdowns that you can leave towards the end of the game and give you the sense that you've come a long way in the narrative. I also love the dwarf noble origin story in particular simply for how hilarious it is to be a royal *beep* to all the lower castes, like not deigning to speak with them and getting your bodyguard to do it instead. It feels so right.

The Dalish is easily the worst. The origin story itself is alright, but it really bothers me how the Dalish is the only one that doesn't give you the option of returning to your roots/dealing with your past in a significant way, since the Elf tribe you encounter later on is a different one to your own. Instead, all that happens is a very weak sequence where your old friend Tamlen is part of the Darkspawn attack on your camp, which felt extremely random and tacked on. You kill him, Alistair is . . . and that's pretty much it. It had virtually zero impact on me.

(I'm aware you do return to the story of the mirror in Witch Hunt, but I haven't played it yet).

I agree with both Nobles, and I also like the dwarven commoner. His/her story is the flip side of the dwarf noble.
I did however, like the Dalish origin. It has call backs in Dragon age 2 with the return of your clan. The human mage origin also has ties to 2 as he/she is the cousin of Hawke.
My least favorite was the city elf. Doesn't really go anywhere.

I think Human Noble is my favorite, just because it makes killing Rendon Howe so very very sweet. Both Dwarf origins offered similar satisfaction, but for some reason, I just hated Howe the most, probably because it was compounded by his association with Logain and involvement with betraying the Wardens. Just so many levels to hate him on.

I doubt you'll get much argument that the Dalish origin is the worst. For me, the complete lack of relevance to the rest of the story just killed it for me. It was completely disconnected. I still don't understand why they couldn't write it so that the Warden came from Zathrian's tribe.

At least the Dalish Elf origin has connections to DA2. The City Elf for me was just lose/lose.

Couldn't really get into either dwarf origin tbh.

Best: Dwarf Commoner/Noble/City Elf/Mage. I really don't have a strong preference, they're all good

Worst: Human Noble. Pathetically generic

I don't like the whole Orzammar questline that much (too drawn out IMO), so I didn't enjoy the dwarf-origins as much as I should've (I guess). They do shed some light on what's going on in that city (especially the "noble"-origin), which is pretty cool. I don't think I ever sided with Bhelen again after I had played the Dwarf Noble origin.. :)

I guess my favorite is probably the mage-origin - even though I have to almost force myself to do the "Broken Circle"-quest on every play-through. That "Lost in Dreams"-quest can get soooo tedious at times.. :)

Still: The way the mage-origin is integrated into the main plot (Jowan's involvement) is pretty sweet. And it feels a lot less generic and predictable than the "Human Noble" origin. I mean? My character can wind up on the throne? Seriously?
