are yellow subtitles that expensive?

I couldn't read half the subtitles on my dvd because they used small white lettering on a frequently white/light background. It's the first time EVER I almost didn't finish a movie because I was so irritated, and it affected my feeling about the film. Otherwise I might have thought it was good, maybe very good. I'm putting this here hoping the filmmaker sees this.
