I've seen things you people wouldn't believe...
Pretty much the entire thing was filmed on the Isle of Man, with the possible exception of the university scenes. I'm from the Isle of Man, and the fictional town they live in in the movie is an amalgam of a bunch of towns and villages here. It's quite funny watching it and seeing completely different places all pretending to be one place, when in reality they're miles apart.
Off the top of my head the towns they used for this are Douglas, Peel, Castletown and Port Erin, and the more isolated rural scenes are in Niarbyl, the Point of Ayre and Maughold.
