Gibneys work=AMAZING. How is this rated so low PRIOR to its release? ;-)

Hmmm...it's almost as if there might be a bunch of disgruntled tea-partyers, ultra-hardcore right-wingers, and fascists on here who decided to arbitrarily rate this documentary a 1 without having even seen it. Almost as if there is some sort of pre-release coordination to hit sites like this ahead of time and vote it down without bothering to actually watch it. It's almost as if there are many who would prefer that the public never watched such thought-provoking work. It's almost as if there are some people who benefit from the vast majority of the population remaining sleeping sheeple.

Hmmmmmm....

Nahhhhh that couldn't be it...could it? ;-)

Anyway, given the quality of this man's prior work I'm sure this will be another stellar, must-see documentary if you actually want to understand how the United States government and it corporate masters actually works.

Have you seen it? I loved both Taxi to the Dark Side and Enron, so I am very much looking forward to this film as well. I would hope that it wouldn't be a film that would divide people by party line. I would think taking back control of our government which is supposed to be by the people for the people would be in everyone's best interests - well, everyone that is except for the lobbyists and the big money interests for whom they work. But maybe, I am just naive.

I looked at the ratings as well - I was soooo surprised that they were so low as well. The film seems to rate particularly low with men under the age of 18.....so I don't know what to make of that exactly. Maybe it's like you said.

Yes, I've seen a screener of it and it's some of his best work to date. After this is released the rating will sky rocket.

Since I first posted this thread 1 day ago, 5 more "people" rated this film and all of them...all 5...gave this film a rating of 1. LOL

Like I said, someone really doesn't like Alex Gibney's work...and has WAY too much time on his/her hands. Perhaps an unemployed former staffer of the "velvet hammer"? ;)

An objective reviewer could never give work this good a rating lower than a 6 or 7 regardless of their political leanings unless they have a vested interest in discrediting the creator of the documentaries.

Funny...and pathetic. ;)

I created a thread about this same topic a few days ago, although you spoke much more clearly on it then I did...

There's no way that so many people can rate this a 1 prior to release without some sort of agenda. I could even understand 4s or 5s, but 1s? And almost in the same proportion as the 10s?

Goofy, indeed...

"Who do you think you are, Bill Clinton? You're a comptroller!"

reply

IMDB should block ratings until the movies come out. I've seen it with other movies, people giving 10s or 1s before the movies are even released. Obviously it is people with specific agendas.

Disturbing documentaries that are not extremely compelling tend to get more hate than love upon release, but they usually catch up eventually. This is a good documentary, it's by no means a great documentary, because it lacks a compelling cause.

It's up to 6.7 now and I'd expect it to stabilise around 7.5 within a year or so.

***So I've seen 4 movies/wk in theatre for a 1/4 century, call me crazy?**
