Good news/bad news. I went to PFK this afternoon, and thought it was enjoyable. I love the fact that Gerard sounds Scottish, and like the casual look. He did a great job, the boy was wonderful, and Jessica B. was believable as the ex.. Bad news, what was the director doing!! Poorly lit scenes, awful editing and lack of direction. In a scene, they shoot through a windshield to focus on George. There is a glare, and the windshield has bug spots. There is camera movement in several scenes,but not the artsy kind. Just carelessness. And a previous poster was correct, the others women----geez, what an insult to them and all women. At least Judy G. was funny. And the writing, just meaningless dialogue.

Thanks for the response GFW. Rebecca Murray gave this movie an F, and I scanned her reviews for several years and only saw one other F. I think critics are being a little harsh (2% RT!), but I do not thnk it is personal against Gerard. People will save their hard earned dollars for better movies, and that's okay.

I don't blame Gerard Butler for this turkey. And it was a pleasant enough movie (I could watch with my daughter), but in the end there was little satisfaction.
It was not that funny, not that touching, not that edgy, not even the sports subplot was that interest holding. Gerard Butler was just wasted, as was Dennis Quaid who probably would have been better as the new fiance. I think Jessica Biel was miscast (zero chemistry), as was the kid (totally forgettable). The movie/story never really took off from the predictable rom-com track, and had very few genuine laughs.
Gerard seems to be good and more comfortable in those love-hate-revenge type roles, like playing that bounty hunter.
you people need a swift kick in the arse. "everything thats wrong about hollywood".... "i really dont have any hope left that he's going to turn things around"... he repeats a few lines, gets paid millions, has his pick of the litter.... what the heck are you people talking about. ?? worry about your own miserable lives...

shareI love Gerry and I think he can really act but he needs to be more picky with his roles. He needs to step back and pick a good script. He might not be the star but he can be a really good supporting role.

shareFor me, there is nothing wrong with Gerry's acting. He delivers every time but is it me or does he have a speech impediment? He's the Scottish Stallone. Anyway, it's not easy to make a great movie. Ask Brad Pitt (Killing Them Softly. UGH!) It feels more like Gerry is the victim of poor producing or mismanagement. I like his choices but in his last few films either the story was not compelling enough (Mavericks) or poorly written script/poor casting (PFK) or just not commercially viable or what I expected (Machine Gun Preacher). His next film, "Olympus Has Fallen" will either catapult him to action hero stardom or kill his career. Regardless, he needs to be more selective if he wants to stick around.
