Damn, I've finished the game but Miranda died on me

Damn, I've finished the game but Miranda died on me (During the suicide mission). Won't she be a part of Mass Effect 3? I'm confused. Also, I didn't get to shag her which is a pitty because she's hot as hell especially her ass. And the greatest bitch on board the Normandy.

reply

Plus I felt sad when I watched Sheppard leaving her behind and running away like a coward. If a game makes me care about the characters then it's a very good game.

reply

Play again & make sure she's loyal this time. Disloyals tend to die first.

I got three dozen ME2 plays. Don't think I've lost Mimi once... though I've had to sacrifice Tali, Jack, Mordin and a few others to keep her alive at different times.

reply

I've only finished the game once but I didn't lose any of my characters.

reply

How do you not lose them

Lost Grunt Jack and Zaeed

Not bothered by Jack but Zaeed was funny and Grunt was great

Managed to protect Miranda and get the paramour trophy

reply

Loyalty is the main way, then you pick the right people for the job.

How'd you lose Grunt, he's all but unkillable? If it was in the swarms bit, you used the wrong person as 'bubble'. Only Jack, Samara and Morinth can do it as long as they're loyal. Anyone else and one of your two mates will get picked at random to die.

Holding the line, soft people like Tali, Jack, Mordin and Kasumi are the ones that are most vulnerable. Getting them off the defensive team (like sending them back to the ship or taking them with you) strengthens the line so more can survive.

reply

I was really glad that the bugs took Grunt. It made the story that much more emotional for me. However, it upsets me slightly that Miranda would get Grunt Killed despite being the one to specifically say "any biotic" is capable of doing the job.

I thought I lost grunt because he's big and slow and too stubborn to retreat from a fight.

reply

In her defence, she did say: in theory.

Jack also says that no one wants to take orders from the Cerberus Cheerleader, but Miranda is a perfectly acceptable Second Team Leader. And funnily enough, despite being told experience is important and Samara (and being a BILLION years old) was on a merc squad at one point, Samara will get people killed if you use her.

reply

Of course Samara will get people killed. Their stories tell you all you need to know: Samara says when you meet her that a Justicar's life is one of solitude; so she's not usually part of a group/team. Plus she killed all those mercs she was with.

Zaeed's another misnomer. People think because he's a badass soldier, that he'll be good at it... conveniently forgetting that in every one of his stories, he's the last man standing.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER!!!

you don't lose anybody if you do it like this:
first, have everbody as Loyal by getting their special mission done properly (quite easy) and for the Miranda/Jack fight and Legion/Tali fight, always take a blue or a red answer (depending on how good you are at Paragon / Renegade)
you get this done best, by finishing all loyal missions BEFORE discovering the Reaper FFS and getting Legion (robot) in your team. After this mission, you can activate Legion and almost immediately take his loyalty mission. Take it. Do it right after taking it. No stops to cities or non-loyal missions. After that your team goes away and your Normandy gets attacked. To later on rescue all your team members (and not seeing fine Kelly becoming a slurpie and eventually shagging her after the game) you have to start the Reaper mission through the Omega 4 Portal right after Joker tells you everything. If you take your time and finish other stuff, your non-combat-important crew will be doomed.

Anyways, get in the O4 Portal. The sequences where Joker battles the Collectors with the Normandy is lethal for your relevant characters. Throughout the game your members demand 3 important upgrades for your ship. You need better cannons (Thanix Cannon from Garrus), a better defense ("Heavy Defense", cant recall, who asks for it. Just look around) and a Multi Core blahblah from Tali. Buy all of it. For each ship upgrade you DON'T buy, one team member WILL die.

All right. You're about to enter the Collector base...

the part where you need a hacker and Jacob's like "I can do that", you either choose Tali (the Quarian / alien girl with mask) or Legion (the Geth / robot) or Kasumi (ninja bitch). If you don't do that, the character who wants to be the hacker will die.

and the group leader for team 2 you either take Miranda, Garrus or Jacob (each one is good enough for the leader role) If you take another one, your leader of team 2 dies.

once you managed this, you need a biotic where Miranda is like "I can do that".. Take Jack or Samara (the Justicar / blue lady) or her equivalent Morinth. Also again a team leader either Garrus, Jacob or Miranda (I preferred taking some other member, instead of the leader from the previous sequence, just that everybody has a job once). Once again, if you take any other characters for the job, the character is killed.

to lead those people home the Collectors abducted (like fire haired fine ass Kelly) you best take Mordin (effin Jar Jar Binks!). Any other loyal (!) person could do this too, but Mordin WILL die, if you don't take him for the escort. (I'll explain it in a few)

once you made it through with your biotic, you have to choose 2 persons to kill off the boss. The rest will stay and provide support against the Collectors. Here you absolutely have to LEAVE the "big guys" behind, like Garrus and Grunt. They seem to have a high potential in defending the doors they guard. Physically weak characters like Mordin, Jack, Kasumi or Tali will most likely die. Considering, that Mordin isn't available because he escorts your crew, you best take Jack and Kasumi or Tali in the team. I took Jack and Tali and the rest defended the doors. Boss went down, we got out, everybody lived. Shagged Kelly. Yeah.

also for the prior two main parts 1. "where you open the valves, that your hacker doesn't die" and 2. "where your biotic protects you against the force fields" my recommendation for your two fighting companions (my Shepard was a soldier) would be:
1. Mordin and Miranda, because Incinerate and Overload are very effective against the armors and barriers the Collectors in this area have.
2. Grunt (with shotgun) and Tali. Grunt for these ugly zombie like hunchbacks and Tali, because her drone (maxed out on 4, with specialty on "attacking") is able to leave the force field and fight or disturb enemies behind objects, so you can take em out easily.

So long, have fun with it.

P.S. the Scrior hunchback *beep* are a pain in the ass..

reply

You can take Mordin with you on the final boss fight (as long as he's loyal, he won't die in the fall at the end) and send another weaker member of the team back with the crew... I always take Mordin and Jack on the final fight and send Kasumi back with the crew, and I've never had anyone die.

Yes, I'm tired... I'll nap. Destroy the universe later...

reply

I've definitely seen a walkthrough with Garrus and Tali in the final battle, and everybody lived.

It helps, but you still have to make good decisions on how to use them =p

Why would you want her to survive? Her job has been to spy on you for the whole game and she's an arrogant whore. If it was an option, I would have executed her and dumped her out the airlock within 10 minutes of getting on the Normandy.

That said, I found it very satisfying to ignore her typically pompous demands to be a team leader or bionic specialist, stick her on lowly door guard duty, and watch her screw that up and get killed anyways. Glad I shot her down on her requests to fill more important roles. Heh.

(I lost her loyalty because I sided with Jack during their confrontation. I also didn't secure Tali's loyalty because I disclosed the evidence about her father, so she died with Miranda.)

reply

To me, Miranda is what Ashley was to the first game: a bitch who likes to listen to the sound of her own voice. That said, Miranda gets better in ME3, whereas Ash gets considerably more unbearable. So Ash dies in all my games (except one, just to see what happens and guess what? She talks even *more* lol) and Miranda survives the suicide mission but is never the team leader (that's always Garrus) nor, obviously, the biotic shield (usually Samara, just because).

Damn it! Tell me what I want or I'll blast your virtual ass into actual dust!

reply

Considering Miranda will resign to side with Shepard over the Base affair, I'm inclined to like Miranda quite a bit. Sure, she's colder than Ash and a fair bit bitchier, -not to mention arrogant- but then, she's got the skills to counterbalance that, and her history explains it too. Also, bubble aside, Miranda is pretty darned good at what she does; particularly doing the team leader thing in 2. I only use Garrus -or occasionally Jacob- because I find her more useful with my team.

reply

For the longest time I forgot that you could chose Jacob as Team Leader. He is that forgettable.

reply

These days, I tend to pick Jacob to lead if he's non-loyal & I want him snuffed; since aside from sending him through the vents, it's almost the only option to kill him.

Like a good portion of my team, the only time I really find a use for him is in holding the line.

FYI, He takes precedence over Grunt and Zaeed during the Swarms. Sooo, if you wanna watch the most horrible way to kill him...

I disagree. I really disliked Ashley, but I enjoyed Miranda and used her regularly.

Get all ship upgrades, get everyone loyal, and pick appropiate people to lead the last missions and everyone will live.

reply

You might not want to get Garus and tali killed will make your team really short for mass effect 3

reply

I lost Jack, Legion and Thane on the ship because I didn't upgrade the Normandy (I forgot to do this, and I never seemed to have enough money/minerals/whatever the *beep* you need to do it anyway).

However, I managed to keep everyone alive during the actual mission (at least, out of those that remained).

I chose Tali as the tech., Garrus as the first leader, Miranda as the second leader, Samara as the "shield generator person"/biotic, and Miranda and Jacob as my squadmates for the first part of it (while Tali was doing tech.) and as my squadmates for the battle with the final boss. Mordin and - hmm, I think Garrus, but maybe Tali - were my squadmates when I was escaping with Samara as the biotic/shield generator. I also sent Grunt to guard/protect the crew as they were going back to the ship.

Honestly, I just chose everyone for their roles based on who I thought was best suited for the job. Apparently, I was right. :P

(Also, I did all the loyalty missions in advance, so make sure to do that before you proceed.)

reply

The only way to upgrade the ship is with planet scanning to pick up stuff. This also gives you options to improve pretty much everything, from weapons to biotic/tech powers.

Good guesses on the crew options, though on sending someone with the crew, most people pick a weaker person, since tougher ones help with the hold-the-line bit. (There's a rating system for each character and the weakest ones can die without enough tough protection.) Mind you, even non-loyal, as long as you send someone with the crew, they'll survive even if the team mate doesn't. Though the team mate will only die on escort duty if they're not loyal.

I purposely picked a stronger person, since they were escorting the unarmed crew to safety.

Yeah... dang, I should have done this more. When do they even mention this? I remember you could do it in the original game, but... oh well. (EDIT: On second thought, I did do this, but I didn't scan actual planets. I just kept spending it on other things though, like weapon upgrades. In retrospect, not the best choice, but oh well.)

I just picked up stuff periodically and kept waiting to have enough *whatever* to do a ship upgrade. Never happened.

Good guesses on the crew options

Thanks!

reply

Yeah, just picking stuff up like when you're on missions won't get you anywhere near enough materials. On the plus side; there's like a zillion planets worth scanning for junk. Heck, I only did the mining thing on like a tenth of the planets I encountered (say roughly one in each system) and I still ended up with ridiculous amounts by the end, even with all the upgrades... except that stupid one to fix your face up, since it's ridiculous. (Seriously; if you're good, it'll heal anyway, but if you're bad, you want to look scary anyhow!)

On the original game, scanning for stuff had no real purpose other than to fill a 'task' on your menu screen.

Re: this, I looked up a flow-chart, and you're right; it doesn't matter at all, so long as you send SOMEONE with the crew.

I figured it would, since, you know, you're sending your unarmed crew into dangerous territory.

I lucked out with hold-the-line, actually, since I sent Garrus; everyone else (Samara, Tali, Mordin) wasn't too strong, but in total (since they were all loyal), they added up to enough I needed to protect everyone/hold-the-line without anyone getting killed.

Funny thing is; nearly every conversation with her in either game, for some reason includes a gratuitous shot of her backside.

I'm all for appreciating an attractive figure & all that, but when conversing, I prefer to see their face.

I remember the days when Kardashians were just the bad guys on Star Trek!

reply

Oh yeah. Definitely not going to deny the makers objectified her far too much. In fact, I saw an interview with Casey Hudson where an interviewer called him out on the excessive butt shots (specifically, he asked why that angle was chosen for a DIALOGUE WHEEL option, meaning it freeze frames fill you switch) Hudson got incredibly flustered and didn't really know how to answer. I'm all for pointing out that she's hot and has sex appeal. In fact, that's an integral part of her character, but the creators really got carried away

Still, she is a great character in her own right. And she definitely gets it nowhere near as bad as the Asari, which is literally a glorified fetish race.
