What kind of tv series will this be?

I think Starz, HBO, or Showtime could adapt the books the best, as Starz has shown with Outlander.
But because it's YA material, and therefore short on the graphic sex, language and violence that is the trademark of these premium cable channels, I think it will end up on the CW network right up their with the Vampire Diaries, or ... gulp ... Syfy. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Starz.

I think this could end up either on The CW, ABC Family or MTV. SyFy would be a good option too. But Starz, HBO or Showtime? No way.

Please no MTV. ABC Family... nah.

I wouldn't mind CW, they have really stepped up their programming recently, and it would probably be a good fit.

reply

Agreed. Keeping the target audience in mind, a television adaptation would never end up on Starz, HBO or Showtime. If anything, best bet would probably be CW.

I'm hoping for something along the lines of Smallville. I've only seen up to the 5th or 6th season, but that show had some great visual effects.

A Mortal Instruments series would need to have decent visuals for the demons and things like that.

I also hope the show does well. If it does, they will need to mine the books for storylines, and they have five books to do that with.

I don't mind it being made for tv(hopefully it will do better), but will it take place after the movie or reboot it from the beginning?

As far as i've heard it will be a reboot.

Cw knows how to put on a good book adaptation
If people hate the movie because of the deviance from the books, I can only imagine what they'd say if the CW did to TMI what they did to the vampire diaries.

To be fair, The Vampire Diaries books become pretty dreadful (and they weren't masterpieces to start) so the CW have definitely improved on them though that's not particularly difficult.

I don't think I could disagree with you more. Then again, I went into the series as a fan of the book, much like the people I commented on here.

I still read the books, and the new stuff being written by the original author. I don't think I'd watch the show if you paid me to. Or the spin off books once the original author stopped writing them, for that matter.

Omg yes they should definitely air it on hbo or starz, it would completely make the series way more popular and if they have to sex it up a bit, whats wrong with that? It will definitely not make people think this is the next vampire diaries. Thr next true blood maybe. As long as thry keep the plot, im cool. I just knkw if the cw or fox picks it up thr storyline will be changed.

I think CW would be a good home for this series. There is enough source material that 22 episode seasons would be ample for whole storylines to be fleshed out. Hoping it won't be on Syfy.

reply

I need a update about this, is the mortal instruments coming to tv or not?

reply

Yes. They are set to start filming in Vancouver in May, I believe.

According to TMI Source, which often knows things before Clare herself does, ABC Family is the network. I'm glad because ABC Family is a lot better about having diverse casts and are much more LBGT friendly than CW.
