Lily Collins is dead wrong as Clary.

Everyone in this movie, except Robert Sheehan, were miscast, but this girl is just god awful as a lead. Just blank face, annoying mumbling and eye widening throughout the entire film with zero personality. Seriously, who's the moron who truly believed this kid deserved her own star vehicle? She must be happy her daddy is the legendary Phil Collins, because if it weren't for him, she'd be working at JCPenney. Don't get me wrong, she's very pretty, but she can't act her way out of a garbage bag.

Disagree. The writing of this is primarily what killed it. Even Meryl Streep can't turn a barely C script in to an A+ product. No, Lilly Collins is not Meryl StreepπŸ‘… but you get my point, right?

reply

I agree about the writing, but really I blame the heavy-handed directing. The tone and the pacing were completely wrong, I thought. Regardless of what the books are, the movies have to be kind of light in tone, else they just drag or, worse yet, come off as self-important. I think most audiences just want to have fun with these kinds of YA films. A few well-choreographed fights, a little romance, some nifty CGI but mostly a QUICK PACE.

Some of the roles were miscast, but I don't really think Collins was one of them. Harald Zwart, on the other hand....

Jace was definitely a miscast.

The script was partially to blame. I don't hate Lily or anything but her Clary did feel like a Brainless Beauty. Almost all her dialogue and personality traits were changed, given to someone else or just plain gone. She didn't feel anything like Book Clary. πŸ˜’ I don't understand why book heroines get so dumbed down in movie adaptations, Zoey's Rose from Vampire Academy is another example of this.

I would always rather be happy than dignified. 😁

I dont understand why they keep changing book adaptations. Didnt theyake a movie out that book because it was good to begin with? So why change it? I get if they cut scenes and remove some parts to make it fit movie duration, and that's fine. But dont change things.

reply

I don't know. I understand those kind of changes and the changes because things work better in a book than on screen or trying to make a character likable or stronger but pointless changes I will never understand.

her Clary did feel like a Brainless Beauty.

In all fairness, book Clary wasn't that smart.

reply

Yeah but her dumbness wasn't anything like Movie Clary.

Any actress in Hollywood can act better than Lily Collins. Even Kristen Stewart (have you seen Clouds Of Sils Maria?)
