I'm watching the episode where they come back two years later to see how Michelle (the Asian lady with the rat infestation) was doing. I just want to smack her!! She's hoarding again, even after those guys were nice enough to give her back her home.
She's clearly delusional, and without therapy she'll never improve. I have no idea what therapy she was provided via the show, or what she did afterward, but I'm as sure as I can be that she didn't stick with it long enough to do any good. A few things I recall that struck me as WAY OFF about her: she went to law school for TEN YEARS (law school is normally THREE years), but didn't take the bar exam; she does legal research for 'the supreme court'--with urine/feces saturated, very old law books; she's wholly ungrateful for what the two brothers/buyers of the house did, and are doing, for her. If she did appreciate it, she wouldn't have let it turn back into a hoarded mess.
I just watched this show tonight (2-21-2015) and then went looking for the update because I had the suspicion that they didn't cure her of anything! The licensed psychologist is really just doing a show and not really doing any psychiatric therapy with any of the people that I saw today! I don't really think it is helpful to them... For the Gore brothers, Judge Judy would say "no good deed goes unpunished!"
thanks for the response! i can't wait to see the update!
i feel the worst for the neighbors who have to fight off rats. so disgusting. i wish the gore brothers would have considered the neighbors.
i read an article about the gore brothers and the show left out this interesting piece:
The first thing the Gores did was change the locks.
"We assumed no one was living there because no one could live in there," Tony said.
They were wrong. Michelle had surreptitiously continued to crawl in to live in the filth she had hoarded over the years.
When the locks changed, she hired a lawyer, who first thought the Gores were villains picking on the woman. That lawyer visited the house and soon found out what was really happening.
she is seriously whacked. she lost the house but was still squatting there.

Whoa! Thanks for that tidbit the show didn't tell us!
Yes, she is completely nuts.
According to the update, she was unable to secure financing for the house, so she ended up not buying it back from the Gores; in light of that, they let her rent it, and will let her stay as long as she wants. The Gore brothers have been unbelievably kind and generous and thoughtful to her, but I don't think any of that matters. I think regardless of where she ends up living, it'll turn into a big disgusting mess...
The Gore brothers are wayyyy too nice. So let me get this straight.. she's renting from them and hoarding the place up? I can't find her update online to buy, so I'll have to keep checking my DVR.
Yeah, I didn't see the update anywhere online either. Be sure your DVR is set to record the title of the update shows; it's "Hoarding: Buried Alive - Last Chance." There are some episodes coming up this weekend, but I didn't see Michelle's among them.
Three years. THREE--not TEN! (I still have no idea why she spent 10 years pursuing an education that normally takes three, and then DIDN'T follow through and take the bar exam. What a waste of time, energy, and money.)
I can't believe she spent all that money on those books only to let them become contaminated with rat urine and feces.
Really. And what about her argument that she does research for the Supreme Court--using those old, outdated, urine/feces-soaked books?
