Hoarding is an American issue

I remember in Oprah, she had an episode dedicated to the issue of hoarding, and the therapist mentioned how outside of the United States, hoarding is rare. However, it is now starting to happen in Britain. Why do you think that is? Such as how the show "My 600 pound life" deals with an issue that is specific with American culture.

I guess we Americans have a problem where we need our comfort things immediately. When I was an exchange student in Korea, I noticed how they do not complain about being inconvenienced. In Korea, trash cans do not exist outside, there is no anti-perspirant deodorant, and the clothing does not get bigger than a 2 XL. If you want to fit into their clothing, you have to lose weight.

Its a problem in Canada also, but to a lesser extent.People here have died in their homes, after tripping over the junk they were hoarding.

I don't think it's an American-only issue; there are shows like this in the UK. They also have an equivalent of My 600lb life - it's called Fat Doctor and is actually a lot nicer than My 600lb life (the people are a lot more likable, but then I usually find that to be the case in general...)
