Spoiler question about the ending

Can anyone please explain why Arturo didn't show up the night of their "appointment"?

Either he had second thoughts or she cancelled. Either way she changed her mind after comforting her brother, realising that family still mattered after all. Contrasting the damage - that is strongly hinted at - that her father had caused.

Interestingly, if the leap year was the fourth anniversary of her father's death then does that mean he died 16 years ago, not four?

I don't know if he was really sold in the first place. You could see in his face that *beep* got too deep/dark/intense for him even that night...I feel like when he realized she was serious with how far she wanted it to go instead of it all just being kinky 'play.' He didn't sign up to actually seriously harm (he was afraid to even cut her) or kill anyone. He might have just said "yes" in the moment to make her happy, or was undecided and then decided against it. I would have been more surprised if he did show up. And I don't really mean that he chickened out like "woah she's too weird for me" either...just that, again, he didn't want to kill anyone. I think he did care about her at some level too. I'm sure he realized, okay she must have some serious issues if she wants to actually be murdered by someone, but he didn't want to go along with that.

We don't know for sure what he was thinking though. Didn't learn anything about him really. I was just going off his expressions/reactions to things throughout.
