Do the contestants get to really take home their ZONK!! prizes?

One lady won a ton of sliced watermellon and I thought to myself, "Hell, I'd take the prize and invite my friends over for a watermellon party". So I'm just curious if the contestants actually do get to take those ZONK prizes home or no?

reply

hahah no they dont

reply

No but it'd be awesome to take home the nacho cheese hot tub!!!!!

Not really but it's a funny zonk!

When the show is over they give them cash for what the zonk is estimated to be worth.

Am I the only one that wanted that over-sized paddle ball?

reply

No, and it's because of a disaster that happened in the 1960's. Someone got Zonked with a pair of baby hippos, and he insisted on taking them both home for real. They were "rented" from a zoo, and valued at 10,000 bucks each, so they had to pay the guy off to get out of legal trouble.

Or something like that. It was a biggish story back then.

I googled it couldn't find it monty hall has an inteview where he said 1 percent of times people wanted the zonk prize and it cost him but not that situation do you know where its at on google?

reply

No, I read about it years ago in a weird thing: a newspaper!! This was years ago, and it changed the face of that show forever.

But yeah, there is oddly nothing about it on Google. It's not all knowledge, ya know.

There was a time where someone demanded the five live calves included in a zonk....which cost Monty and company a fortune because they were rented. There was also an incident on the original The Price is Right (the Bill Cullen version from the 50's & 60's) where a contestant demanded the "gag bonus prize," which happened to be an elephant that went along with a baby grand piano. After much back and forth, they gave in and had a live elephant from Kenya sent to the man's home in Texas. But there was no incident where live rhinos were awarded to a contestant on Let's Make a Deal or The Price is Right. It's probably the live calves incident on LMAD that you are thinking of.

I wonder why they can't just have that rule for live prizes then, or just stop using them.

That was a very unnecessarily rude reply btw

When you're 17 a cow can seem dangerous and forbidden...am I alone here?

reply

I was rude? How? 
