Charging him with 'rape'

Women like the mother are the reason so many TRUE rape victims have such a hard time. She wanted to charge him with RAPE because she was vindictive over the fact that her almost 18-year-old daughter WILLINGLY had sex with a KNOWN CRIMINAL? And was lying to her and completely disrespecting her to be with that known criminal?

reply

she can actually have him charged with statutory rape because her daughter technically was underage, so it is a form of rape even though she was willing

reply

I know that is the law. (In some states, like mine, the legal age is actually 16). My point was that charging someone with rape should be only for when an actually rape takes place, not because someone is feeling bitter and just wants revenge for not getting their way.

MeanKitty, I tend to agree with you to agree with you to some degree. Having young children around a predator who preys on young children is a lot scarier than someone who dated someone a year younger and had consensual sex.

If I had a teenage daughter, I would be worrying about some young guy who would try to pursue my daughter but I would also have to monitor my daughter's behavior and hold her responsible for her part! Again I'm talking a one or two year age difference. It does get murky when the age difference is 5 or 10 years.

I hope I don't offend a parent with a teenage daughter (or son), nor do I want to "blame the victim" but I do think the statutory rape laws should be reviewed.

I saw a program where a guy married the "victim" of his statutory rape, they've been married for 7 plus years but he is on the sex offender registry. Again another instance of a rape case where the age difference is one to two years.

Age difference plays a part to some degree. Again, I think more when it is clearly a child of 12 and an adult 18 or over. But when the younger is 17 and the older is 24...that 17-year-old knows what they are doing. (Again, also consider in some states, the age of consent is 16. In NJ, the age is 16 unless the older person is in a position of authority.)

Another big problem I have with that law is a girl can do her make-up and dress to look like she is 18 or over, then lie and tell a guy she is 18 or over, have sex with him willingly, then if he dumps her she can cry "rape" and ruin his life even though she admits she willingly had sex and lied about her age.

What are guys supposed to do? Demand to see three forms of ID to prove the girl's age?

reply

Speaking about age of consent laws, in FL any teen girl who's 16
can legally have an intimate relationship with a male who can
be up to age 24. I really don't agree with nor understand this
state law! Am watching this movie now on LMN and it isn't bad.

Do you think that a girl does not understand she is having sex at 16? I remember being 16, and fully understanding.

reply

No she couldn't. In the state where she was st the age of consent was 16,and her daughter was 17.

I was wondering about the whole "I'm going to be 17 in a month" thing too. To me, I felt as if the timeline of the movie and the length of time the two had been seeing each other was longer than a month, at the very least it had to be a month's time. She should have turned 18 at some point during this movie.
