why only 5.1 ??????

I think the movie is good. I love the story, the way it is presented by a young girl living in modern world. And the stories are connected in certain way. The characters are attractive. The acting is very convincing and powerful. Every scenes are beautiful. Many beautiful clothes, lovely style, amazing props...... I am just addicted into the world in this period.

People hate it simply because of the director, aren't they?

reply

You summed it up perfectly. I'm with you, this movie was beautiful on every level.

reply

I agree with both of you 100%. This is a wildly under-rated movie.

I am so totally surprised at the low rating and low ticket sales! Even though the 1998 scenes could have been eliminated, the overall juxtaposition of the 2 stories was rather interesting! Madonna did a great job!

reply

Unfortunately its probably because Madonna's name is attached. The film is good and hopefully in time it will gain a cult following

The first time I saw it I really didn't like it, but it grew on me and I think it will continue to grow on me. I LOVE the woman playing Wallis, she's great. I could have done with a little less 1998 and more of David and Wallis. Some of the camera work made me feel like I was watching a music video. I'm sticking with the 5 rating I gave it for now. That's middle of the road, it wasn't great but it didn't suck.

YESSSSSSS, some parts feel like a music video to me too :-P

reply

I didn't like it either, but it still hasn't grown on me. The1998 part totally irritated then and still does, only more. It comes off as a wish-fulfillment fan-fic fantasy. The dialogue is so poorly written, and the characters are so predictable. I'm left feeling completely uninterested in knowing anything more about them.

reply

It got low ratings because the dual storyline detracted from the movie. No one cares about the Abby Cornish character and she took up too much screen time.

Madonna blatantly ripped off Wong Kar Wai's style, music, vision from "in the mood for love" during the Hotel Suite scene. The way Abby walked up the stairs, the camera pans and music was such a cheap copy.

Pretty ghastly.

take the exact same movie but take away madonna's name it would be a 7/10

she just has so many haters

reply

I don't thik so. How about: take the exact same movie but drop the fan-ficcy modern day story line and it would be a 7.

reply

Maybe a 6, possibly, but definitely not a 7.

reply

I LOVED "In the Mood for Love" and I love W./E. too :-)

reply

It deserved to 6.8. So unfair for this film

Just finished watching W.E. and, I must say, I am very pleasantly surprised. A little long, but the acting, the fashion, the scenery and the story are all very well done. I was reluctant to view it as I am definitely NOT a Madonna fan, but kudos to her for this movie. I give it a 7.

I watched it a couple of times and I absolutely loved it.
The actors were brilliant, both storylines were entwined with each other very welll (I loved the fact that Wally imagined Wallis' life by visiting the exhibiton and auction, looking at certain possessions).
My mother is a big fan of the life of Wallis and Edward and she liked this movie a lot.

I totally agree with you... every scene was shockingly beautiful, i guess the low-rating thing, is because of Madonna, maybe the haters, or people who expected something different from the movie. both ways, it's very wrong, and very underestimating. I'm not a fan of Madonna, but i adored the movie...

No, it’s because the film has zero substance. The story is lacking in every way. All the film has going for it is being pretty to look at. And even then, it falls short on some levels. The actor playing the love interest wasn’t nearly handsome enough, and Abby Cornish looked so freakish in many scenes. She needed to drop 10 pounds at least to meet the aesthetics of the film.

reply

I couldn't give a crap if Madonna or Francis Ford Coppola directed it. I found the movie overly pretentious and boring.

Overly pretentious, boring, embarrassing, cringey, lacking depth, amateur storytelling.
