I'm sure it was all in David's head.

He seemed more like a schizophrenic. The dude was far gone. I don't know if that was the intention of the movie, but I'm thinking they just use The Possession of... to get a bigger audience.

Nopes. The light turned itself off and they were clear to show you this. Also Kate was torn up from the front at the end with blood splattered on the door, meaning something got her either from the front or wrapping around her. Also given the area around her body showed no sign of struggle, it clearly wasn't david.

Sorry for the bump, I just saw this last night. As far as the light goes, maybe it's just me but I assumed it was either broken, or on some sort of timer. I believe it was in the entryway of an apartment building, so I figure there was probably a timer to keep people from leaving it on all the time. It was kind of disappointing, with the exception of the final scene with Kate and the scene where they check the computer and Kate is insistant that something other than David must have turned the camera on everything else can be explained as all being in David's head. I was kind of disappointed they went for that last little scare and kind of screwed the movie up imo.

I agree with Mrchlodog. The light was on a timer. No demons, David killed Sarah (b/c he thought she was cheating), Alex and Kate. Just another psychopath.

"Stalingrad. . . The fall of Stalingrad was the end of Europe. There's been a cataclysm."

Yep, the hallway light was definitely on a timer.

And I agree with the OP. David cracked and killed Sarah. Then, he killed his friends.

Ultimately, I gotta give this movie thumbs down. It seemed obvious to me about a third of the way in what was going on, and I only kept watching to see if the couple escaped. Bummer.

I agree that the light was probably on a timer, but there are other reasons to think that the demons are real -- the "don't open it" line, the various demon-POV shots.

I agree completely. I'm honestly surprised at how many people don't realize that that final scene of Kate was meant to show that he WASN'T crazy, that there really was a demon!
And how could David have attacked her anyway? She was attacked AFTER he was dead.
She was torn up from what was clearly claws/talons of some kind, and as the above poster mentioned, she was killed from behind .
And Kate talking in her sleep, saying "Don't open it. Don't open it." was clearly a premonition of the later time when she did open the door to her doom.

Plus, who turned out the light when Alex was opening the door to see David for the first time? Why would anyone assume it was on a timer? When did they indicate that?
Alex looks up at it when it happens, startled, but probably assumes the bulb blew.

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

Everything else in the film is ambiguous, and can be interpreted either way.
That final sequence is the only bit that is relatively unambiguous.

There is a killer-comes-back-from-the-dead trope in Horror movies.
But since there is no on-screen evidence that David killed her, we must assume the monsters were in fact real.

It would have been better with an ambiguous fade-to-black ending, or a shock-horror Paranormal Activity one.

And Kate talking in her sleep, saying "Don't open it. Don't open it." was clearly a premonition of the later time when she did open the door to her doom.

Much like the motion-sensitive webcam, it is an interesting idea that was never explored by the film-makers.

I used to live in a similar flat, and the light switch in the foyer looked identical to that one. And guess what? It was on a timer, so the landlord didn't have to pay a fortune in electricity bills and lightbulbs because tenants never bother to switch it off themselves.

The push-button light switch is the kind that is on a timer, you can tell that just by looking at it.

Also FWIW the phone system in the UK has a different Caller ID system than the USA, which seems to have confused a few US viewers too.
