EVA'S ESCAPE

This has been really bothering me. At the end of the film Eva puts on the suit, hacks away the toilet, drops into the sewer and then climbs up to the street.

QUESTION 1: She just abandoned the other survivors? Now, I get it, there's only one suit, the place is burning down. But one of them was her former fiance and the other just helped her defeat the two psycho guys. But not even a mention? The conversation is quick: Micky is injured and Sam (was that his name?) is pretty much insane and also injured. Eva is the best candidate for survival. Micky would probably agree with her, being a fireman and all. It might have even made a really touching and emotional scene. She has to say good bye to the man she once loved and forgive Micky who she previously conflicted with. And Micky, finding a new found respect for her, lets her go and mercy kills Sam with the gun (they still have that right?)

QUESTION 2: When did she come up with this plan? Before she does this we aren't shown her figuring a way out. There's no pause, no thinking she just proceeds like it was pre-planned. If so, when did she plan this? How did she figure it out? If she came up with a way out, why not tell the others? That also could've lead into an interesting scene. They have a way out, but there's only one suit and so they debate who gets to go. But instead she puts puts on the suit; chop chop; drop; climb - free. Really? That's it?

To compare it to a similar scene in the recent 10 Cloverfield Lane *spoilers* that escape scene is way better. We - as an audience - are shown the components of Michelle's escape plan. There's been build up to this. It's tension filled when we see her mad dashing to get everything in place so she can escape - all the while evading Howard and the quickly spreading fire. There's obstacle after obstacle that raises the stakes until she gets free.

In this movie there's none of that. No tension, no character, nothing. She just pulls this straight out of her ass.

I just watched this movie last night and really enjoyed it. I'm a bit surprised I just came across it as I do like post apocalyptic/dystopian type books and movies.

I didn't really have a problem with the way it ended. I got the impression that in the end, as she is staring at what is going on, the sheer madness that is going on around her, it comes to her that there is only one way to get out alive. She's got one chance to take care of number one (her) and she takes it.

Near the end of the movie when she turns the lights off, Mickey tells her that there's another way out thought the septic system and that she'd be swimming in some awful sh*t. That's when she decides to make a run for it.

It's about the survival instinct. As far as I remember, this all happened very fast, right after she saw what her pussy-fiance was capable of, and what she was capable of.
She realized that everyone in that shelter was a potential killer and that it was "every man/woman for him/herself", she split to survive. Although we know that the outside world was a no-go anyway.

I think the sewage was discussed with Mickey at some point.
Why would she tell a bunch of killers about her plan? For once, she did a completely selfish act to save her own skin, she was the only woman left, with a man she used to love (but hates) and Mickey, who she doesn't trust 100%.

I am glad the cheese was left out here, just a quick escape when she had the chance.
