is Katie Holmes really bad in this film?

She is bad or not?

Joaquin Phoenix forever...

For what i saw in the trailer, she seems really fine, but she has a supporting role so i guess we are not seing her a lot!

reply

Katie is good in the film. She get such a bad rap for being Mrs. Tom Cruise. Katie should have done The Dark Knight. She probably would have a better career at this point.

reply

She's Katie Holmes... of course she's bad.

Im not at all a fan of K.Holmes. But it does seem to be the in thing now a days to pan her simply because its cool to do so and because her husband is a one man traveling ,recruiting, freak show!!!

Actually she was very good in this although it was only a minor part. As said above, it seems to be "cool" thing to mock her acting now

I don't think she's a bad actress, but I do think she's miscast a lot. I liked her when she was younger and playing roles for younger women. Since she married Tom Cruise, she seems to get roles that don't fit her and there's not much character in her characters, if you know what I mean?

In fairness, I've long thought that Tom Cruise is one of the most over-rated actors in Hollywood. He was pretty good in his early movies, but now he just comes across as a stand-in for CGI. Off the top of my head, the last impressive performance by Cruise was Rainman.

Slug-3 I always thought she was a better actor then he was. He always came off as a stiff to me. It is not a coincidence that a few movies he has been in his costar wins the Oscar. She is good as the part they give her and they are mainly miscasts. I hope they learn how to utilize her better.

I don't think she was THAT bad, just her usual mediocre self.

she was bad as in most of her movies

reply

She wasn't bad really - she just didn't have a well written part. Whenever she's on screen, she's depressed and harassing her husband. The script doesn't allow her to show any sympathy toward him or offer a hint of their once loving relationship. It's a failure of the writing and directing, rather than her performance. I think she gave it her all and I wouldn't put it on her.

My next door neighbor could have played her part. She's not much to look at it really and that's the only reason to have her playing such an insignificant role. This movie was terrible. If anyone liked it, I feel sorry for you.

reply

I agree, it was painfully bad. But that said, Holmes was actually decent in the movie. In the few scenes she has, she brings it. She has some solid dramatic acting chops.

reply

I feel like she was miscast and didn't have much to work with in this movie

reply

i cant stand her stroke victim half smirk then that she does

reply

I thought she was really good, rather. But it's a pretty small role . . . though an important one, as her character is a major catalyst in the protagonist's complex, conflicted feelings. His family is why the ending turns out the way it does.

The irony here is that while I agree that the cool thing to do nowadays is to hate on her, now more people are giving her more credit than she deserves - to counter all that negativity.

Someone said it best "her usual mediocre self" that sums her up well. She's not terrible, but she's not great either. If she were to not act ever again, Hollywood and audiences wouldn't even notice.

She was annoying already on Dawson's Creek - and don't get me started on Michelle Williams - one of the most overrated actresses out there right now.

reply

LOL that made me laugh, the bit about Michelle Williams being one of the most overrated actresses out there right now. To be really mean I've never thought of her as an actress. She's just someone they had as a supporting cast member who should have gone back to flipping burgers after Dawson's Creek finished. She's got nothing going for her.
