Song...

Anyone else notice the instrumental song that played during the movie was from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. There was one little note that sounded weird to me. But it was pretty much the theme song of Eternal Sunshine.

"It's as Ann as the nose on Plain's face."

Yes--I noticed that, too! :) I found it odd at first (because in my mind, that music is completely attached to Eternal Sunshine...) but I really like Jon Brion's music so I let it go with the flow. :)

Yeah it was REALLY distracting. And Jon Brion doesn't seem to be credited, so... Did James Jandrisch just blatantly plagiarize Brion? I'm confused.

reply

I think he did! That is *beep* up. There is that weird little triplet but everything else sounded exactly the same. Not cool.

Yeah, it is totally a rip-off... but it is *eerily* close to the original. And that's not the only one, I recognized at least two other pieces in the soundtrack as tributes/ripoffs to other famous songs for which they probably couldn't afford the licensing.

Clearly this is the kind of thing where the producer or director was like "You know that song from Eternal Sunshine? Can we get that?.... no, too expensive? Ok, well, how close CAN we get to that?"

Mostly I just don't get why they would want the whole movie to ooze the mood of Eternal Sunshine. They're totally different movies with totally different themes and structures.

But yeah, this Jandrisch guy - seems he has a Yoko Kanno-esque talent for emulating other people's sounds. Kinda cool just as an artistic accomplishment, when you think about it.
