1. She did brush her hair and had style; but the styling and clothing options for overweight people in general is severely limited (unless one has a ton of cash on hand). granted, however, her insecurities kept her from putting as much effort into her hair and appearance as later on. I thought that was realistic enough.

2. She did not "stuff her face" with donuts, and certainly not when she was trying to lose weight.

3. The REASON the woman gained weight, according to her, was that her boss was harassing her, and she covered herself up and stopped taking the same amount of care with regards to her appearance because she was hoping he would leave her alone. The main character's boss was just rude whether she was heavy or not.

4.
A) He liked/was attracted to the main character and asked her out before she lost all that weight.
B) The one woman's husband wanted her to STAY heavy, because it was easier for him to manipulate her and play on her insecurities
C) The other woman's husband loved her both when she was thin and heavy

5. I have no idea why you're so hung up on the donuts; I didn't get that from the movie at all, except maybe in the beginning when she ate donuts in the morning.

6. They worked out all the time, had a secure support network where they called each other about their progress, and met up all the time to work out even more, and went thru great pains to eat properly for the most part; how was that "easy"? 100 lbs in 4 months may be a bit of a stretch, but it was NOT portrayed as being easy either way-- their one friend even went thru surgery to lose the weight, for Pete's sake...

I'm gonna respectfully disagree with that statement. There are several plus-sized women in my circle (friends/family) and they are very stylish in their wardrobe. They do not have an overflow of cash, either. Believe it or not, there are clothing stores that cater to plus size women AND they offer affordable prices.

I have a harder time finding appropriate length skirts and dresses for myself (I am 5'9") than my plus-sized friends have finding stylish, affordable clothing for themselves...

It is what it is, til it's not anymore...

Well I was once one of those women, so I have to respectfully disagree with you on that count.

I think our definition of "ton of cash" may differ though since I was in college and had no money when that was the case for me.

I'm curious to know if you have talked in depth with your plus sized friends about this, or if you're conclusion is anecdotal based on how they look? I have a good fashion sense and it takes a huge amount of work to achieve a personal style. For my taste there are not many affordable options at all. One big problem, no pun intended, is that plus size clothing is cut as if we all have massive lower bellies, or massive boobs or we're all very tall. I have none of these three things and shopping is a nightmare!

"the styling and clothing options for overweight people in general is severely limited (unless one has a ton of cash on hand)." Hogwash.

Did you happen to notice Nola's apartment? It was large, Friends-like stylish, and loaded with expensive furniture.

Did you not see my last response?

Yes, well said. My reply was meant for "Meme's Girl", sorry.

Poppy looked like she's about to pop in this movie.

Actually I know a lot of jobs where woman are treated just like that and I've been exposed to a lot of women Exactly like this! It depends on the industry you're in, is how you'll be treated. Life isn't fair and it's attractive people don't have to try as hard, but it's a double edge sword for women, because you're also judged like that. When it comes down to it we live in a beauty obsessed world simple as that. And this is a Freaken MOVIE!! Generalization stems from just that...it becomes it because it's mostly TRUE! People attack fat people and when they're thin, they say their anorexic or other disorders. You get attacked both ways, and who cares! As long as you think you look good.
