I really hope Stranger Things can create more recognition...

for this under-publicised gem. It certainly "borrowed" enough from it!!

I really don't see any resemblance, apart from the little girl being held in a research facility and having telekinetic powers.

Mainstream (StrangerT) vs Art Movie (BTBR)

I think that's enough for me. I also think the stranger things soundtrack sounds like they borrowed quite a few things from other sources as well.

reply

The Stranger Things soundtrack sounds far too similar to the Only God Forgives one.

Well considering that that is basically the entire plot BTBR......BAscially I feel like ST is like BTBR but with tons more plot added.

reply

I know they are different in many ways, but I just saw STRANGER THINGS and it made me think of this film more than any others.

reply

I agree!

reply

same here.

reply

I don't see any similarities between the two.

Howard Hughes was Italian?

they're both set in the 80s, they both have synth soundtracks, they both deal with psychedelic and telekinetic experiments by a shady laboratory. i'm not sure why anyone wouldn't notice these similarities.

I don't see any similarities outside of the 80s aesthetic and telekinetic powers.

The plots aren't very similar, they share nothing stylistically at all , OSTs aren't very similar despite both having synths and their influences are a far cry from one another. I can understand finding a connection between the two in regards to the lab experiments and such but even then, that was nothing substantial to me. Not even in concept.

I think they're both loosely based off the Mk ultra tests the cia did in the 60's... Then the myths about the people they experimented on having telekinetic powers. There's another really good movie about that I forget what it's called

reply

Banshee chapter that's what it's called..which is also a lot like From beyond..

reply

I don't think it "borrowed" anything from it at all. There was nothing particularly unique about the story in this movie.
