See the original Tarkovsky film, if you have not. The newer version is bland Hollywood tripe.

I loved Only God Forgives. Beautifully shot, by the same cameraman that worked with Kubrick.

I've just seen Rigour Mortis, add that to the list!

Also add
To the Wonder

Beyond the Black Rainbow, ultimate experience, no better in my mind. Most other trippy films have left me disappointed because the visual and stylistic elements did not come off as well, or the story got in the way, or crappy effects/acting/dubbing, etc. BBR is solid in every aspect, more than solid.

Also a fan of:
Only God Forgives
Black Swan
Brazil
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Surreal/avant garde cinema from Bunuel, Resnais, etc.
Cure - Japanese
Even The Big Lebowski, funny trippy
Cinematography/sound in movies like The Conversation, Klute, Blade Runner, original Carnival of Souls

**Can't believe I forgot to mention my favorite short trippy film of all time, which I Fellini's Toby Dammit. The opening airport scene is definitely a must for fans of tripped-out imagery. Make sure you watch the version with Terrence Stamp's voice and not the horrible dub.

reply

free with everything you've said there. Only God Forgives was beautifully shot. By Larry Bird who worked with Kubrick.

I'd also say check out The Strangest Colours of our Bodies Tears. Saw this at the London film festival. One of the most triply films of all time

I'm also looking forward to Under the Skin.
