Is this nearly brilliant or am I just ignorant?

Does stuff like this come out all the time and I'm just not aware of it?

I don't think we're in CONUS anymore, Toto...

I think it's brilliant. I'm sure people will suggest films like it, but for me it's entirely unique. It oozes atmosphere.

If only it would get a European release on blu ray.

I think thats the wrong approach to take with films, in general.
A film like this will either resonate with you or it won't.
Not liking it doesn't mean you're ignorant.
It really tries your patience. Its more a question of whether or not you appreciate the aesthetics within it.
I really value the visuals and soundtrack. It's very Cronenberg-esque. Very creepy/eerie in that early 1980s way.

And no, films like these are not made very often.
I'd go so far as to say that this is probably the best of its kind in the 21st century. If you want more of the real thing, you should probably go back to the '80s and '70s movies that share similar themes.

I haven't seen something similar and i'm a big fan of art and experimental cinema. Of course, there are the influences that were already mentioned, but symbolism wise it's more than unique and in a class of its own.

"The Neon Demon" has a similar "centerpiece" scene that happens directly in the middle of the film like in BTBR. An OBE that takes place on a runway, similar to the scene where he drops acid. I mean different subjects and things happen BUT it reminded me instantly on TND and that the films take a hard right turn after these scenes and the Characters are changed.

Another film where I noticed many similar things was "Lost River". And "Under the Skin". And since you enjoy experience films, you should just check these out.

But I agree with you OP this film experience was so great, and out of the norm. Visceral is a great word for it. Beautifully shot, amazing soundtrack, interesting story and good performances. But it's the way it comes together, the way it's composed. It's an experience and that's the only word I can think of.
