... even though the events unfolded as the monks originally thought they would. I.e. letting him stay would bring'em tons of trouble.

lol they're monks, if anyones gonna let something go i think it'd be those dudes.

It wasn't specifically allowing him to stay that got them in trouble, it was for trying to thwart the treasure theft/worker killings.
