Great movie, loved it, I've got two questions though:
1. is the movie based (partly) on facts?
2. Who is this bad ass fighter (bald with a little ponytail). I've seen this type of guys in some other Chinese movies? Who are they?

It's based very very loosely on the time period just prior to the destruction of the monastery.
The guy with the ponytail seems to be a stereotypical boxer along with the guys who wear the metal studded hats.
