Beautiful Boy VS We need to talk about Kevin

which movie did you like more??

Although both movies share the same plot ( student goes on a mass murder), they were both different.

I just wanted to know what everyone's opinions were.

We need to talk about kevin, seemed more darker to me cuz the boy was troubled since he was young and we actually SAW that.

For me, I enjoyed both movies

"We Need To Talk About Kevin" was the better film, but Maria Bello gave the greater performance (and that's saying something, because Tilda Swinton was outstanding also).

"they should give nicole kidman an oscar for being able to show any emotion after THAT much botox".

Funny thinking about "liking" these two, being they are so depressing. Beautiful Boy was more painful for me, because the parents are at such a loss as to what happened. Kevin was evil and evil from the beginning. Unlike the stories on the news, he seems to be exception to the rule. Also, there is obvious parental blame in Kevin, whereas in BB there is none. I'd give BB the edge, but Swinton and the kid who played Kevin were Oscar worthy performances.

I'm not sure I agree there was "obvious parental blame" in Kevin, especially when you say that Kevin was "evil from the beginning". They made mistakes, but you could hardly say they are to blame.

I didn't mean blame for the end result, but they did seem to nurture his odd behavior. The mother having another child, one that she could love, and the father turning a blind eye. I'm not trying to come across as an expert, but I've worked with kids who have social disabilities and this is the case very often. One parent will want another child (for a multitude of reasons, but sometimes it's simply the "normal" child) and the other parent will excuse the overall behavior and promote the single positive, much like in the movie with the archery.

I definitely prefer We Need To Talk About Kevin, but much of the praise for this film goes to the book. Whereas Beautiful Boy is based on original screenplay. Still the Kevin film engaged me more, even though I had read the book before.

"We Need to Talk About Kevin" is an AMAZING film and struck more of a chord with me. I will definitely remember it more than "Beautiful Boy".

However, "Beautiful Boy" is still a wonderful film.

Beauty is unbearable, drives us to despair.

I liked Beautiful Boy a lot more because you feel the pain of the parents more. WNTTAK is a very cerebral and disturbing movie whereas Beautiful Boy is more of a.. I guess depressing movie. There's not much disturbing about it. You don't feel this horror and discomfort inside you like you do during WNTTAK. You feel more of a sadness and an empathy, a sympathy for the parents.. some regret that they didn't really get the chance to try to help their kid more. I bet they would have tried if they knew how serious it was.

Instead they get all the blame for something their child did and they're seen as monsters just for trying to mourn a monster. He was a human being, he was their son. And it's natural for them to be devastated that he's dead. There's just this added complexity that he murdered several people before taking his own life. I just cannot imagine the conflicting emotions that would give a person to have to live with that.

I'm not sure I could live with that. I felt this empathy for the parents, the urge to embrace them.
