Why the low rating?!

Ppl only want to see a sport movie if it's about baseball or football?
Chris brown is still bein' hated?
America doesnt win in the end
?
Or is it the braggyness of "america invented this sport!" & that it was released a few months b4 the actual competition took place (like they try to influence the judges or smtg)?
is it the multiculturalist message?

Still, not even having the greatest fondness for america (i'm an arab-french, u can imagine), for a breakdance movie this is like one of the most interesting, informative, well constructed & not-too-cheesy i ever saw.
+ they got real breakdancers who actually can act amazingly, i dont see why all the hate... but i guess that the lowblow bashing trolly flock listens to farting-higher-than-their-ass critics just a bit too much.

Whatever, to each its own opinion.Peace.

cause America didn't win and if America doesn't win, people here downvote it..

I'm with you.

I saw it yesterday and man, critics and public have gave it such a low rating!! Fortunately I didn't pay attention to them and I really enjoyed it, even when it's not my type of movie (I tend to watch more serious subjects), I was just interested on the dance thing, and that part was great. The story was regular but I found an enjoyable movie overall.

reply

yah , it was better than all the BS critics said . they rated on comparing it to Step Up ..wtf ? thats not even a real deal . its like comparing it to hacky sack vs. football . this movie is based on a real event that happens for the b-boys globally . not just us fat ass 'mericans .

Morons ...your bus is leaving.

I thought the film was a lot better than it was perceived to be.

This movie should be enjoyable even if you replace every break dancing scene with just a title "and now they're break dancing" and move on with the rest of the movie. And honestly it's not, it's too predictable, lacks pace, 2 dimensional characters, ...

So what you think is the great thing about the movie (the break dancing) for movie critics it's only production value.

reply

And what about musical comedy then ? If you replace every singing part with a shot of a tile & clay-written lyrics ...

But i agree on your critics, just saying sometimes you got to use relativism, & this movie doesn't deserve a lower ranking than any of the step up movies & what not.

Maybe it's not the best one for promoting an event like BOTY, but there's documentaries that do that better.

(ancient greek theater was quite predictable too you know, codified asian theater is quite pace-lacking, & shakespearian drama was pretty 2-dimensional-characterish).

Well i don't watch them either. I don't go around blabbing empty logicless critics pretending i know better & low-rating their asses on purpose...

Oh i get it, this movie is too "mainstream" , dang, so... wait there's parallelstream U.S movies about b'boying worth watching ? i'd love a hint. What do you think about the indian movie ABCD (i'm being serious, it's a real thing).

Anyway, Ta !

This is just my guess, but I've been watching the real thing on youtube/torrents. And the real thing is better than this movie, and minus the drama. I guess people who is into this compared it to the real thing.

I'm glad America lost in the movie. It was accurate because they didn't display the level of moves that the Koreans displayed. It shouldn't have been close honestly. I think there has been other movies where the person or team came in second but were appreciative because they didn't even expect that compared to where they started. The problem with this movie is the bad acting and cheesy dialogue. And yes, people still hate Chris brown because Rhianna becomes more loved by the year. If she wasn't a big star, the collective attention span of America would have forgotten about it. It did not help that he his movies were the weakest by far. Honestly, the team belonged more in a Step Up kind of movie because they were a bit too focused on unity rather then break dancing power moves and floor work. Step Up has gotten consistently worse with each entry.

well i agree with the cheesyness even tho it's far less than other hiphop movies, i must disagree on your appreciation of korean moves ("they didn't display the level of moves that the Koreans displayed."), even if very technical, they in this movie lack fluidity, & artistry in their moves (so i sort of agree :]), but well, korea, japan, america, yall hav history so i won't judge (+ korean cuisine & traditional dancing is like already over the top so i may be wrong, tho i saw som videos of Korean breakdancers who pawned what i saw in this movie just randomly). Tho i still think it was a considerably better entry in the breakdance movies than many others.
(sry for my lame english).

Disclaimer: I have never seen breakdancing before this movie.
But after watching that final battle several times, I agree that the Koreans were not as fluid and interesting as the American crew. I really did not get how they won just on technicalities but then I guess it would have been too cliché for the Americans to win.

Are you saying what i think you're saying? (that they displayed bad korean moves just to let dem win so that propaganda..... achh, i shd just shut up, sry, liked ur answer is all :)

ps: u know the price of an authentic korean breakdance crews's flight & stay to a movie filmed in (was it paris, berlin?) right ?

let's not diabolize america more than needed :]

This movie was dreadful. I only watched to see Dominic Sandoval and he was the first one cut. I had zero interest after that.

I was hoping to see other "So You Think You Can Dance" dancers. Chris Brown wasn't that bad. It's not a bad movie, and this is coming from a Grandma who loves dancing. You can always fast forward to the dance sequences if you don't like the story line.

reply

It's a bad movie, simple as that.

Some of the dancing is awesome but most of it is edited in weird montages, like they are desperate to skip through it instead of focusing on it.
If they had a script, characters, anything to focus on instead, I'd get it but they don't sooooo...?

Still, not even having the greatest fondness for america (i'm an arab-french, u can imagine)

That's a pretty stupid statement.

this is the worst "breakdance" related movie i have ever seen and i am almost 50 years old and i have seen them all. damn, i even saw "breakdance sensation 84" and even that one was "less bad". not only that, but this ranks within the worst films i have ever seen. i know, i know, people lose that phrase lightly, but not me. usually i differ between low budget bad and high budget bad. not this time. this ranks within the worst ones, no matter what budget. worse than home alone 4, the comabrutal duel, the last hellraiser installment, saw 7 ...etc.
