For $100000, would you go up the tower?

Would you climb to the top of that tower, if someone rich like Jeff Bezos arranged for a briefcase filled with $100000 in cash, was placed at the top for whoever got it first? All you have to do it's climb to the top, stand there for one minute, grab the briefcase, and then go back down. You keep the $100000 in cash.

reply

No. I’m not going to be a pet for some rich guy and do something for his amusement just because he threw money in my face.

reply

I agree with you Mattc164.

reply

You actually think $100,000 is a lot of money? Really? How much is your life worth to you?

reply

Plus you would be taxed on the $100K, which would reduce it to around 80K

reply

100 000 is around 10 years wages for most people, mate.

reply

Not in the USA. What country are you referencing?

https://www.census.gov/library/publications/2021/demo/p60-273.html

Minimum wage is around $14,000 a year.

reply

Of course not, US people massive income. Most people in the world do not make nearly as much. The average (not minimum) wage here would be bellow your minimum.

reply

Thanks for the clarification. I agree with you.

reply

I don’t give a shit about the rest of the world.

reply

Wow. I'm glad I don't live where you do. 100,000 = 10 years wages? That's sad.

reply

Things also cost a lot less.

reply

My goodness, I certainly hope so!

reply

Yeah, you must be american - the highest wages in the world.

reply

"100,000 is around 10 years wages for most people, mate."

Yeah, in 1967.

reply

I think I would do it for $1 million USD, but not anything less. However, with some conditions:

- The Ladder must be completely sturdy the entire way up and the entire way down.
- The tower overall must be in new condition, no ancient or obsolete tower conditions, and is not in danger of collapse.
- The weather must be sunny, 75F-80F, with no clouds and no weather warnings approaching.
- I can use a safety harness and belt in case I slip or the wind knocks me.
- All microwave and other antennae on the tower must be turned off.
- I can bring a cell phone along.
- Bezos pays my taxes on the $1m, so I keep the full amount.

reply

>- All microwave and other antennae on the tower must be turned off.

Why? They dont output anywhere enough power to have any effect on you.

Also you need at least 3 mil to live off interest afterwards if you want a decent life.

reply

Live off interest? Who would actually do that? I'm spending baby!

Signed, million man.

reply

Intelligent people.

reply

Not for $100,000.

I was twelve when I reclined from an 80-foot cliff (only did it twice, I should have done more in retrospect). My frame of mind was to just simply accept and TRUST the rope, and the guy down below... But yeah, that tower in the film didn't look too sturdy to me.

But for me, I think I could do it for 100K, USD. I'd prolly get too tired before reaching halfway and high wind scares me as well.

reply

I would need a sturdy tower that's not rusty and falling apart.

reply

There's a ladder up there for a reason. Somebody else did, probably to change the light bulb... of course I would.

reply

LOL. . .was waiting for this reply. Whoever's JOB it is to climb that tower is laughing their a$$ off. . .GUARANTEED, they don't make 100K every time they do it. People just don't think. . .

reply

Yeah I don't get the question or most of these answers. Unless you're terrified of heights, why wouldn't you?

reply

This tower? No, it's a death trap. A similar tower with a sturdy ladder? Sure, with a harness and 3 months physical preparation.

reply

You mean you wouldn't do it to gain Instagram followers? LOL

Signed, million man.

reply

I'd climb, MAYBE, the first hundred feet. The entire thing was completely rusted. Why they didn't stop immediately is insane. Again, the suspension of disbelief is key here.

reply

They were daredevils, this was established in the beginning. Most people don't climb vertical rock faces where you could possibly fall to your death either.

reply

They were idiots, established throughout the film.

reply

OK so if they were idiots, why do you need to suspend disbelief?

reply

I didn't. There was no reason to do so.

reply

"The suspension of disbelief is key here".
