Her best since Jeanne Dielman

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Chantal Akerman last week. After the news I began revisiting as much of her work as is readily available, and I had forgotten how beautiful this film is. It captures the natural beauty of the forest/jungle as well as the New World or the films of Apichatpong Weerasethakul.

I know nothing is set in stone at this point about why Akerman did what she did, but it pains me so much to think that her motivation may have been linked to a bad reception of one of her films, particularly because she was always so courageous in her filmmaking style and didn't seem to give a damn about what her audience had to say against her work.

Anyway, this is such a beautiful film, and I figured since it didn't have anything in the message boards I should post something kind about the way it and her other works have made me feel. She really was one of the greatest around.
