Why was there a British Flag in Oliver's Room?

There seemed to be a lot of British paraphernalia around his house, which was empty except for that stuff so it made it stand out. Any one know the reason for this? I don't think Oliver was meant to be British and there was no mention of it.

Thought it was strange.

Loved the movie regardless.

I would say it's a homage to Ewan McGregor but he was born in Scotland so who knows...

Scotland is part of Britain. There is also a Scottish Saltire in one of the other rooms.

Any one know the reason for this?

I think it's just meant to be a movie in-joke, as Scotsman Ewan is definitely playing an American character.
