Traci a bit old to play Dejah Thoris

I agree, she is way too old and looks it. They could have made it a bit better if they would have spent about $20.00 for black hair dye and red body paint, but we get stuck with an old, pale skinned, blonde Dejah!!!

Well at least she isn't a shape shifting mutant (or whatever Andrew Stanton is now doing in his mucking quest.) But yes-I never pictured her as Dejah Thoris.

In the book Dejah Thoris is a brunette woman with copper red skin. Her age is never mentioned but she is usually portrayed as in her mid to late 20s in artwork for book jackets. The aging process however is slower on Mars in the book meaning she never really ages at all.

I think ERB described her as looking in her twenties, black hair and copper red skin. I would have preferred a younger, less worn actress with dark hair. They could have at least forked out a few bills for black hair dye and red body paint to appease the die hards. Her costume is the only thing they got half-way right.

The costume artist did ok, but I see no signs of a make up artist.

traci is going back & forth, with "SCI-FI, HORROR, ACTION & DRAMA" and everything in between.

reply

Traci Lords as Dejah Thoris may be a bit of a marketing ploy. Ms Lords was once a porn star, Dejah Thoris the character is strongly associated with nudity by anyone who knows anything about the Mars series.

reply

true along with other things.

reply

Dejah Thoris is said to have a "girlish figure."
Tracy Lords was showing off her figure when she was but a girl.

I always pictured Bea Arthur as Dejah Thoris, but hey, that's me

reply

Traci Lords would make a better Bea Arthur than she does a Dejah Thoris.

Are we talking Maude-era Bea or Golden Girls? Or the Star Wars Holiday Special?

All the above, mcr.

I just watched the movie. I taped it (yes I still use a VCR) and liked being able to fast forward past some of the parts (and commercials). I thought Traci Lords made a fine Princess. Disclaimer: 1) I am getting old 2) I do not have HiDef TV.

reply

If I took off my glasses and sat 30 feet away from the TV, I'd agree with you. Traci has done some very good stuff, but this was not one of them.

At least she admits to reading the book and loving it. That's more than can be said for anyone on the big budget version anyway.

ah well, i wouldn't throw her out of bed....

For the die hard book fan, this is probably an issue. For those like me who have never read the books but became aware of them in other ways (for me it was Carl Sagan's Cosmos in the past & internet browsing more recently), she plays the part well.

I have no problem with her.

reply

No.
