Sooooo many questions. SPOILERS

When Darvell and Clara are walking together at the end he says he wants her "bun?" Did I not hear that right? And than she says "maybe in time." I didnt really understand that sentence.

What the hell was that shrine?? So you go to the dark shrine when you are ready to die and you get attacked by yourself? And than become a vampire? And where is this island? Was it near the coastal village that they were at? I feel like they left so many unanswered questions.

Did they have any special powers? Besides being immortal and the super long claw they could grow. They didnt really seem stronger or faster compared to the humans. Speaking of the super claw, does anyone know why they decided to go in that direction instead of the usual fangs. Also the sunlight dosent seem to effect them but they still need to be invited into a home? Strange.

But I did enjoy the film. Even if it was abit slow paced in some parts, it was still probably one of the best vampire films Ive seen in awhile.

I believe he said he wanted her pardon.

Correct.

No, he said what guacamole pantz said in his post.

The shrine or ancient structure was conceived by Jordan, but the name for it escapes me. There was a reference to it in a review, but I frankly can't remember the name. I guess you meet your evil doppelgänger, and he/she kills you to give eternal life.

I don't feel they had any special powers, but they could manage growing a pointed nail when it was time to feed. They went with the claws (fangs) but not most of the other vampire characteristics in order to get away from what has been done so many times before in film. The island or group of them are located in Ireland. In the film, they were suppose to be somewhere off the coast according to the film.

Thanks for clearing that up guys, much appreciated.

Obviously they were tougher and stronger than normal humans ... she beheads someone with a garrotte.

reply

I saw on Lockedup NBC a prison inmate almost took off his cell mates head with a pair of shoelaces, so I could see someone taking a head off with a garrotte.

reply

Great anecdote, but no. She was stronger than a normal human.

reply

I still dont think she was stronger. Holding down a drunk pimp cant be that hard. Not to mention a old fisher men. She seemed like she used her, "gifts" of seduction and boobs more than raw power. The only "super" thing I saw was jumping from a great height in heels and jumping on the car/smashing the windshield at the end. But than again, parents have been known to lift cars of children when they were in danger so maybe throw that one up to adrenaline?

reply

It's true that for most of the movie the two didn't seem to have any particular 'powers.' But at the end, she punched through a car window, got thrown onto the pavement, got up and was seemingly unharmed. If she wasn't supposed to have greater than human strength, then the writers have no idea what the normal human body can do. :p

reply

It would take a powerful individual to decapitate with wire. An average sized man probably couldn't, there's no way a woman of Clara's size would be capable without some extraordinary enhancement (such as supernatural strength).

The analogy of parents lifting cars off their children involves surges of adrenalin. This would probably not have an effect on someone undead, and it's doubtful her body would still have been capable of producing any in the first place.

I suspect they simply avoided overt uses of strength in order to conceal their nature.

reply

Yes, she definitely had increased strength. And increased stamina too, given how fast she (and Werner) ran without tiring. Plus she jumped through the skylight and fell a long way with no visible sign of injury or stress. Yes, she landed on a bouncy castle, but she didn't know that was underneath - she jumped anyway. Plus they apparently didn't need to breathe - it looked like Clara returned from the island by walking though the water. Darvell too, presumably, given Ruthven had taken the boat.

Then you don't understand just how hard it would be to get through the neck.
