What a selfish bitch!

She's entitled to ask for divorce but scamming her husband to the point of becoming homeless just shows her true colours. That and she stole all the money from him.

Nick (Will Ferrell) could have moved all his stuff to his backyard and thus far wouldn't have to sell any of it or get it stolen. The cops saying that he couldn't be on his own front yard didn't make much sense either.

And lastly, this shouldn't be categorised as a 'comedy' since it isn't.

I feel like staying in the front yard instead of the back was a [misguided] attempt at protest. If he relocated to the back then nothing would happen (do you think he actually wanted to just live outside indefinitely with his possession?) He was immaturely making a statement, and then Pena asks him "Do you really think you're going to get her back like this?" Though I'd for sure put the vinyls and other nice possessions in the back to avoid theft.

The thing about being married to an addict is that they will bleed you dry of everything. I would imagine her controlling the money was the only way they were able to have such a nice savings built up. When he relapsed, he blew every cent he could find. She needed to protect herself financially before he ruined her as well. I don't blame her. When you get pushed to that point, it's hard to have sympathy for someone who cannot take care of himself.

reply

But how do you know the wife even worked? How come someone "protect herself financially" when none of it was earned?

Well, that is just speculation. She very well could have had a job.

She was an ex addict too, so did her fair share of cocking up too, no doubt. I get your point, but he was still entitled to half of the savings and value of the house.

That and she stole all the money from him.
I'm not sure she did. I think the account was locked on her instigation, meaning that neither could get at it, according to the bank officer, who also reminded Nick that he could have locked the account himself. Regarding the house, I can't see how he could have been locked out of that without the house actually being in her name (which is never mentioned in the movie). Courts throughout the Western world generally don't like going and making people homeless.🐭

She seemed to think that he was cheating on her because of the allegations at work. They turned out to be false, but she didn't know that.
