Why is this described as a 'Comedy'?

This is not a criticism of the film, but why is this described as a "Comedy"?

Watching a sick man who has reached rock bottom is not usually funny unless you are looking at Dudley Moore in "Arthur 2", where the alcoholism is never regarded as the problem that it really is.

It was billed as "Comedy Drama" on UK TV the other day.

I don't normally like the sort of comedies Will Ferrell is in, but I looked for a trailer online, and thought this looked like it had a decent story. And after watching the film, it proves Will Ferrell can actually act, instead of just acting silly.

Comedy Drama can often be more drama than comedy, and sometimes have quite tragic moments. I think this is the sort of "slice of life" dramas where the comedy moments are also tinged with sadness; like when he kept getting woken up by the sprinkler - as if that was his alarm clock.

I loved this film, and laughed out loud many times through it.

"Look at it this way; in a hundred years who's gonna care?"

I had no problems with the film itself, except to say that I saw nothing to laugh at knowing the man's situation. In all fairness, I suppose if I had been one of his neighbours, and not aware of his tragic circumstances, I would probably have laughed at the "sprinkler" scene.

But once you are aware, it's almost as if you are looking at a disabled man who has got home to his apartment block after having his crutches stolen, only to discover that the lift (elevator) has been vandalised.

I just saw it, and saw nothing comedic about it. Not even black comedy. Just straight up depressing drama. I mean, Will Ferrel was great in it (and I'm not a fan of his typical work) but yeah, the movie was just one tragic hit after hit after hit.

Using the ignore button keeps you healthy and wise. Now I just need to work on the wealth.

Its not a comedy. Its not even a black comedy.

Its that man again!!

Thanks for that. I was beginning to think that someone had stolen my sense of humour!

I think films like this are usually called Dramedies.
They usually deal with dark, real subjects, but still contain humor.

this is Dramedy!

I found that this movie has absolutely no humor in it at all. It is a depressing movie that goes downhill to an ending that has no conclusion at all. Besides for a couple insightful lines this movie is worthless to me.

They are always calling dramas comedies .pisss me off

I'm halfway through and I selected it from the Comedy section. No way is this a funny movie. You may smile, you may even laugh.....but it more Drama than Comedy.
