Fingers crossed.

Just saw the promo for this on ten and it looks half decent. It pains me to state but I haven't seen Australia produce quality television since "Blue Murder". Roxburgh may do Hawke justice. Some of the other actors could cheese it up. I'll withhold further comments until post pilot...

Yeah looks good, Richard Roxburgh makes a very convincing Bob Hawke

What we do in life, echoes an eternity!

The ad looks good but so far it's been quite bland imho.

I agree, I expected more, I'm a little disappointed. However the acting from most of the players was above average and RR was just amazing.
Also loved real husband and wife team Ted Norris and Julia Blake (Senior Royalty of Australain Talent) play his parents.

i agree also - maybe it was too hyped. it wasn't terrible but...
i just feel they should have chosen one thing to focus on, either personal life or politics. either that or make it a mini-series.
it didn't really delve into anything with any depth. but agree that roxburgh was amazing, as were a few others (whoever played graham richardson did his mannerisms so well).
i found the interview afterwards more interesting.

love him or hate him bob hawke was (oops, is) a huuuuge character with an extraordinary life - with that kind of material it all just fell a little bit flat, especially considering how downpat roxburgh did him.

It was a bit dissapointing, I found it hard to get involved with Hawke or Keating. Hawke came across as not very likeable but I don't know if that was because he wasn't or the acting was bad or the script or what but I enjoyed the interview with Hawke afterwards much more than the movie.
I found the timing of it interesting, Julia gets attacked for stabbing Rudd in the back and along comes a movie to remind us that it happens all the time in politics. Maybe I'm just a cynic.

haha maybe a bit cynical - considering blanche had to start writing a couple of years ago, and the production would have taken a while.

convenient? VERY. but surely julia doesn't have that much foresight and power. surely. then again.......haha.

I agree, it was a lot better than I expected. Pretty good performances by all.
But I also agree that they should of focused on one aspect of his life and stuck to it. It didn't blow my mind but I stayed and watched it all.

I was disappointed that so much was crammed into movie format, and the full story was not done justice.

Roxburgh was amazing, and Williamson very surprising as Keating. Hopefully he can now be given something more to do than those dumb Commonwealth Bank ads.

I am not a lunatic. I have the psychiatric report to prove it.
