uneven

This starts well but it meanders and at times is downright mean-spirited.

Audrey Tautou is exquisite but her character is more unlikeable as the story progresses. I understand that in the end everyone has to get what they want/need for this to be a traditional rom com, but it would have been much more satisfying if Jean had realised his love was misplaced and had fallen for Maddy. That may have been too obvious, but as it stands the twists and turns of the final third of the film feel directionless and often unpleasant.
