IMDb has the wrong title for this film

It's actually called, "De vrais mensonges" (True Lies).

There's a famous American movie with that title so it was probably released here under the altered title.

Yes.

Many movies released in multiple markets have name changes for different countries. This one is close to the french title but some often are not translations at all. "A tale of Two sisters" original title was "Janghwa, Hongryeon" which means "Rose, Lotus" I believe and the US remake is "The Uninvited". Less drastic is the first movie of the Harry Potter series - It was The Philosopher's Stone pretty much everywhere else but the US where it was The Sorceror's Stone.

By coincidence, I watched "A Tale of Two Sisters" last night!

I have watched both the original and the US remake. Both were good but I myself preferred the original. The subtle nuances of the original story (korean folk story) were imho better done in the original.

Didn't see the US remake. Remakes are usually disappointing. Even in situations where I've seen the remake first, when I go back to watch the original it's obvious to me (even if I'm unaware of the folk story that's imbedded in the film), that the national style of filmmaking and acting of the country of origin is important to my enjoyment of the film.

Yeah the remake was pretty close to the original but they changed some pretty major things.

The sisters personality and appearance. In the original she was a young girl. in the remake she was wearing a bikini and cut off shorts and I am pretty sure most scenes she may have been drunk. She was portrayed as much older and the character was sexualised.

The "reveal" was more shocking in the original - which I did not see first thought I wish I had. In the remake I guessed the twist early on. Where in the original, even though I knew it was coming they still did a better job, I found.

I liked the ending of the original better too. The remake seemed pretty cheesy imo.

I liked how the original didn't spell everything out for the audience and at the end you are left wondering if you just watched a horror or was the main character crazy or not. The Remake wrapped everything up too much IMO

I was pretty sure she was crazy at the end of the original. I think, generally speaking, that Hollywood doesn't respect the intelligence of the audience, hence the filmmakers (or studio suits) think it's necessary to wrap everything up too much.

I really loved the pacing of the original.

Have you seen Nakashima's film "Confessions?"
