A very engaging and worthwhile film (contains spoilers)

One of the most engaging films I have ever seen.

“Brownian Motion” has been tagged as akin to watching paint dry. This is so way off-the-mark.

True, it is a film that has a slow development, and often seems to take on a state of stasis for long periods. But all this adds to the richness of the film.

Some aspects to consider are: What is the role and importance of sex, monogamy, fidelity (and even psychiatric health?) in a marriage? What is the meaning of the word “enough” in a marriage? What feelings and emotions do I myself have about the progress of the film? – quite often the camera just scans the face, for what seems ages, and this is done in total silence, so one has the generous gift of having time to register one’s own changing feelings and queries – do these feelings alter as the filmed character gives evidence of a slight furrow, or a slight grimace, or a slight drop of the lips? What is the role of the hand-held camera? – in many scenes one would think a tripod would be used, but clearly the camera is being held by a very-steady person – is this to add a greater sense of “humanity” to the filmed scene? The closing scene takes place in the midst of a featureless desert – does this signify any statement about how far the emotional journey of Charlotte and Max has come?
The colour palette of the film is striking too, with an emphasis on white and pale salmon captured in obvious emphasis, and then followed by an emphasis on red and chocolate/orange/brown - such a contrast. Well worth seeing.

Truly a film of significance and richness. Do settle down and let it take you on an intriguing emotional filmic journey.
