From an artists point of view.. (spoilers inside)

First, a counterpoint to one of the other posts I've read regarding the technical merits of the film. In my humble opinion, competence was all that was required. This film, to me, was not about editing, directing, or cinematography. This could have been shot on a camcorder and the profundity of this film would not (for me) have changed. But hey, to each there own. Personal interpretation is one of the really cool things about art. Even with my own work, over time, works that were inspired by very specific events, take on new or different meaning. It just depends on where I am at emotionally when I take it in. </Rant>

The breadth of ideas and philosophy covered in this little film are astounding, and very well executed. It addresses questions that many of us have pondered. It also provides very plausible and in many cases, likely resolutions to these questions. I thought this film did a great job of highlighting both the good and not so good aspects of our species.

The questions and ideas presented here - again, in my opinion - are what this work is really all about. Had this film been pushed through the Hollywood polishing machine it almost certainly would have had the core sucked right out of it.

This is art people. Something meant to expand our insight into the human condition. And for me, this film certainly accomplished this.

Of course, there are things the filmmaker, in retrospect, would like to change. I have yet to compose a song or album that in hindsight, I wouldn't have tweaked slightly here or there, or maybe not released at all. But at the end of the day there is no such thing as perfection in art, or life for that matter. There is only what those who ingest it, glene from it. Be it emotional or philosophical in nature. Or, nothing at all.

Sure, there are things that, had I made this picture, I would have done differently (though only VERY minor details), but that's just my take. At the end of the day, only the filmmaker's opinion and vision matters here. He took something from inside himself and shared it with the world. And in my opinion, did so with tremendous insight and grace.

If by some chance this film's creator ever reads this, I have just two words for you. "THANK YOU!"

PS: Somebody call a doctor because I think I just broke my ankle climbing down off my high horse.

The thanks come from me. That was very insightful. Thanks so much for watching the film. :)

It's a very fascinating movie to look back on because the audience is so divided. People either love it, and endorse it as a breath of fresh air, or loathe it entirely and question my competence. At this point it's become exciting just to see where people stand.

I hope you'll check out my next film Matt's Chance, which is on the festival circuit right now.

Thanks again!
