Really bad ending

Man did the ending suck or what.
I really liked it up to the last 10 minutes or so, those angel wings went way too far, and then it got even worse, also all those deaths were pointless.

A small confrontation between the 2 of them was all that was needed to resolve the plot, no need to pull in more deus ex machina elements the horns alone come with a godlike power over human mind, all him changing into the burnt up devil and stuff was completely dumb and forced.

Till then the horns seemed to be only in the mind of the people who had a lot of sins on their consciousness, not something tangible noticeable by anybody. And then he turns into that devil, meh, ruined the movie for me.

Agreed
It was a creative film but the ending ruined it

That and the fact that it was his friend really wasn't that surprising. The flashbacks as kids pretty much gave it away early on in the film.

And the end was just overkill

6/10- would've been 5, but I gave it an xtra point for its creativity.

I just finished watching and came here. You two just summarized exactly what I was thinking when the credits started to roll.

The ending was indeed overkill. I, instead, gave it a 7 and subtracted a point for the lousy ending.

I agree with these opinions as well. It was, however, one of the more different movies I've seen in awhile.

I think we're all on the same page here. I also felt the ending was terrible, and the true killer's identity was obvious during the very first flashback. I gave it 5/10

reply

agreed. Very good movie but the ending was epic failed.

Sadly, you're right

"I have the higher ground"
"what's that supposed to mean?"

reply

Ending felt sloppy, ruined the build up.

reply

Yep. Not only was the killer's identity already well-known, the ending just went on and on and on. And when he sprouted those wings I busted out laughing. This movie needed a better edit for sure.

There were so many opportunities to end this movie sooner and end it in a better way. I was ready to rate this an 8 and then with the finish up and the movie dragging on and on I just put it on the list of movies I have seen.

You guys are a lot kinder than me-I rate this film a 3, and barely that.
I just found it pretty bad overall.

I thought the 'mystery' was undone from the outset-knew the killer straight away when you realise he's the only one the horns don't work on. The crucifix as protection thing was also there-considering it was her crucifix in the flashbacks, another obvious element. So without the mystery element to the story-that was just lazy.
Also, I really hated the 'lusted' after her, then raped her-ummm, that's now how rape works, at all. Those who commit rape don't have an 'attraction' to the victim, they do so for power, domination, etc. Many rapists will tell you that their rapist, when doing so, had shown no signs of attraction. They lashed out and raped them. Some guy harbouring an attraction for decades...nah, he'd kill her based on anger, rejection...etc. If he couldn't have her, nobody would be allowed have her.

The other elements of the story-burning the lab so the DNA was destroyed by his dad etc-just laughable. All these things would basically mean his case would have been won, by him, not lost. Since the witnesses could easily be debunked-done.

Merrin was too abstract, too mysterious, so much so that she was less a character, more too mysterious to really grasp why Igg fell for her. I think she was a completely underdeveloped character, and the abstract element-I dunno if that was how the actress was told to play her, or if she was underwritten. It may be both-but she did not feel 3 dimensional at all. Just too much of 'oh, she's an angel...' well, fine, but angels have personalities too. Terribly underwritten. Bordering on 'Lovely Lisa' from the Room at times- everybody wants her.

Also the 'I have cancer' scene was done really terribly-they didn't even name the cancer-that was so lazy. It was bordering on 'I have breast cancer' from the Room. And even then they named the darn cancer-like, give it a name, even if it's makey uppy. 'A dangerous cancer that my mom died of'. Yeah, that's lazy writing.

There were too many unlikable characters-like, without any redeeming elements at all. So when some of them are 'helpful' to Igg-it was like, yeah, but you're so unlikable, I don't care.

The use of CGI in the film was pretty awful too. The death animation, the finale etc, was just terrible. The compositing in the murder scene made it look like it hadn't been done well-the snakes hovered too much-just bad compositing.

It was annoying too how much of the film just reminded me of Harry Potter-the outfits, the talking to CG snakes. The actual references to Harry Potter in the books didn't help.

I guess I expected too much from the director of Piranha 3d.

I was watching the ending and thinking, "This is going on too long," not to mention it smacked of desperation to tie everything up with sensational thrills. Less would've been more in this case.
