Typical Stephen King garbage

Great premise, beginning, then impossibly unsatisfying and annoying as truly shaven balls torture porn ending. Grrr!!!

It wasn't Stephen King. It was his son.

Absolutely nothing.

They're a highly intelligent family of published authors and English teachers who just so happens to favor the horror genre.

reply

Except for the fact it's not Stephen King.

reply

Yes, and dur, but it's exactly like his stuff.

This comparison only shows that you have no idea what you're talking about.

Prof. Farnsworth: Oh. A lesson in not changing history from Mr. I'm-My-Own-Grandpa!

reply

I actually think Joe Hill will be a better author than his father over time. I'm not a big fan of Kings books.

reply

they are the same. father, son. same style, same bullsh!t

reply

Wow absolutely brilliant, it was superb and definately deserves a spot on the top 250, Radcliffe was superb, and the American accent was flawless, the plot was superb, the effects were superb, the duration was the perfect length, and the music worked, all in all it was the perfect film wasn't it.

reply

i think it would be better if you watched it on mute.

I'm a huge fan of King and I loved Joe Hill BEFORE I knew he was King's son..
They sound absolutely nothing alike, really. You can tell Joe is INSPIRED by King's works but he has a completely different mind set. If you do have to compare, is compare him to Richard Bachman not King and even then Joe is completely different.
You should read Heart-Shaped Box to know what I mean.

reply

are you kidding??

Horns was filled with ideas taken from IT and other King works. nepotism is fu<king bullsh!t

reply

lol well you see King has pretty much written throughout his novels, novellas and short stories about any and all imaginable sources of horror. Back in the days, people criticized King for taking elements from Edgar Allan Poe, W. W. Jacobs, H. P. Lovecraft, etc. I'm not sure if you've read works by those people but I have and King sounded no more like any of them than Joe Hill sounds like King.
Every author is good in his own way and they don't compare.
In my mind it comes down to the storytelling not the story alone. The same way 2 different people tell the same joke but one is funny and the other is plain dull.
Hill will struggle to navigate territories already extensively charted by his father but I have a feeling he will write great books. From his 2 previous novels (I just started reading the new one, NOS4A2), you can clearly tell he has the gift of storytelling.

Ive read a lot of Stephen King - in fact almost everything up to Under the Dome. I read Horns only because I loved Locke&Key and have read nothing else by Hill. Just on the basis of those two works though I can say theres no comparison - at times Hills style begins to be reminiscent of his fathers in the way he goes on about certain details, but the details he discusses and the story he weaves is very different than anything King has written. They are very different authors.

It's quite possible, but this (movie) still has a major Stephen King vibe about. I didn't even know it was written by his son (before I saw it), but I still thought it was influenced by King (the flashbacks when they were kids especially reminded me of him).

reply

I definitely felt a Stephen King vibe the moment he made the camera crews/reporters start fighting, and then the bar burning down. Just reminded me of Needful things and how the devil 'made' them all do terrible things.

Weird, 'cause he doesn't have any of the quality of these authors.

reply

You may want to, you know, actually read some books. If you insist on being a literary critic, it does help to have read a lot and be able to actually recognize authors.

reply

"Heart Shaped Box" was fantastic!!
