What did Edward want with Rose?

Especially in the scene before she left, what do you think he wanted with her? I feel because she was an outsider he felt compelled to talk with her and get to know her and that he could connect on a deeper level than he could with his family. he was able for each out to Christopher in similar ways. Edward seems likes a character who yearned for that feeling, but he did not get it from his resentful sister or his lonely mother. In the end, Rose was confused and uneased they attention. It wasn't romantic, but it demanded something from her that she wasn't expecting to give. She also heard Cynthia say over and over"you don't have to make friends with the staff" which possibly made her feel like she wasn't supposed to give herself, since we often as people hear the most negative criticisms about ourselves and ignore the positive. Maybe she wanted to get to know Edward, but since she was staff, she felt her presence wasn't wanted, due to classism perhaps. Perhaps this grew into annoyance for Rose because there was nothing she could do to further it; nothing would come of it.

It was an interesting dynamic.
