are there police in this reality? (SPOILERS)

You have a person threatening you and your family... calling the police? Good idea.

You find a decomposed finger in your garden.... Calling police? Almost definately

You find THREE bodies in your pantry and you know who the killer is?!?! CALL THE DAMN POLICE!!!

I get that is was a whole time warp thing and that calling the police would not have done a whole terrible lot but at least it would have gotten future rose arrested. And why did she tell Rose Johns name? Bah.

reply

There are no police in this universe and, judging by the lighting in Mary's apartment, no light bulbs above 40-watts.

reply

Maybe it's supposed to be different in Puerto Rico?

reply

Call the police and tell them what exactly? That a deranged person from 40 years earlier is calling you, threatening you and cutting their finger off to get at you? They would have locked her in the nut house.

I don't get her not calling the police about the bodies, but just because we didn't see it happen doesn't mean it didn't I suppose. Nobody is going to leave three bodies in their pantry.

She was an idiot for not calling the cops on her ex though.

reply

Um... what about the people in roses time? If all of these people were disappearing and being killed, a little girl was taken to some ladys house, etc she would have been arrested very soon after first talking to mary and half of this wouldn't have happened.

plus she didn't call the police about her ex, or the bodies, or the finger

she didn't change her phone number or unplug it right after moving in, she could have just used a cell phone it would have been more useful anyway

this movie was just too flawed to even try to rationalize anything that happens in it, makes no sense whatsoever, not sure why some people are saying it was so good. wasn't the worst movie or anything just not well thought out at all

reply

Well, if she *had* unplugged the phone rose still could have gotten her, even killed her younger self and erased her existence entirety. PersonallyiI wouldn't feel comfortable just waiting and wondering what this crazy lady may do wondering if each moment will be your last. I would have left the phone plugged in as well.

reply

The scene in which she tries to call her landlords about the air conditioning shows that she doesn't get good cell service in the apartment. That's why she kept the landline.

I'm with you on the ex, though--especially since she had witnesses for several of his stalking episodes.

I'm not a witch, I'm your wife!

I hated she gave Rose so much information -- I really loved John - only if she didn't give Rose his name maybe he would be alive is that right? Only thing I hate about the film is that John was killed by Rose when he was only 12 years old.... pissed me off.

reply

The police would have thought she was crazy and likely locked her up. I was shocked when she told her new boyfriend everything
