You don't always get what you want! Especially in this case.
Best you can hope for is some 'decent' American film producer to pick up the rights, and make a series of films more closely based on the original anime or manga!

shareI'd skip this guy's advice and just go with the first 20-21 episodes of the anime, then start reading the manga from chapter 80. The last episodes after episode 20 or 21 completely destroy the anime. It makes you believe like it was all not true and for nothing, whilst reading the manga to the end you will get closure. Plus the ending that the anime achieved minus the lame stuff.
So please do not listen to ^that guy^.
As for the movies, I haven't seen them yet. Not sure if I will. I remember that the movies for Death Note were quite lame, and kind of reminded me that sometimes it is best to not make a movie about a scifi-anime.
The Manga felt like it had more filler than the entire Dragon Ball Z series. So Please disregard ^that guy^.
While it's true that the ending to the Anime was a bit disappointing, the ending to the Manga was way to obvious with so much build-up.
The best we can hope for is that some greedy American author takes the credit for the Japanese original, like they did with the Hunger Games series.
