Is the story of both movies true to the comics?

I watched the anime version of GANTZ a few years ago and I always wanted to know what happened after Kei was on the train tracks but I can't get the comics here in the UK.

I was very happy when I saw they made live action version of the comics, even though the first film was a very short version of the anime it was still good. Perfect Answer was also good.

Please can someone tell me, if you've read the comics, is the storyline the same?

The storyline is VASTLY different from what you see in the anime and movies. The manga story is just so soooooo soooooooooooo much more.

The anime is more or less faithful all the way up to the end of the buddha mission, with the annoyance of the old lady they keep bringing up that has NOTHING to do with the actual story, but they just randomly decided to give her some meaning but whatever...

After the buddha mission the anime completely crumbles and starts a nonstop rollercoaster ride of crappyness.

The movies are well...movies! They take their creative liberties not so much so in movie 1 but holy crap Gantz Perfect Answer should be retitled "Gantz Alternate Reality" almost nothing about perfect answer followed the manga. They picked and chose the 'themes' they thought were 'cool' and just created their own storyline around it the manga did it so much better.

And lets us not forget how cool Izumi is, he would've single handedly pawned all those weird aliens from the train. Which reminds me of another point...Kurono should've been way better/stronger in Perfect Answer. He grows SO MUCH in the manga into a true down to earth hero and leader, it sucks that they did not keep to that part of the story. Where he actually inspires a lot of those other Gantzers around him and he is bad ass at fighting.

Izumi is the one that's supposed to be using swords, kurono is more of a sharp shooter and hand to hand fighter.

I believe the plot of the second movie is the combination of several storylines from the manga.

The role of the Shorty Alien seeking revenge is given to the remaining buddhist temple alien. The Men In Black with swords are supposed to be vampires in the manga but in film are apparently the Buddhist Temple Aliens taking human forms. The Thousand Handed Buddhist Temple Alien disguised as Kato.

Reika becomes Eriko, but she has an antagonist role in the film.

Izumi's plots are divided to the men in blacks and Eriko. The tiny black ball is unique to the film.

...a little fantastic, and fleeting, and out of reach.

The tiny black ball is unique to the film.

Izumi had received a miniature black sphere in the manga as well. Everything else is correct.
