A whole lotta pointing with no shooting

First of all let me make it clear that I'm no newbie to the gantz universe. I've been a fan every since the manga first premiered and I've owned the anime for a while now. That being said I understand that both of these other formats have their flaws too, especially when it comes to confronting aliens in the beginning of the series. But something about the movie really work my nerves. For example,"an android is running at you full speed and you already have your gun pointed at it with your finger on the trigger." What do you do run or shoot. It seems our heroes would most likely run first then shoot later. It happens again at the end when Kei is getting his legs sliced and diced and the girl Kei decides to just point and... turn around and run once Kurono is dragged to safety. Now I understand that this movies is coming from a country where guns are virtually non existent, but come on this is just too extreme.

Other than that I can say that its a pretty decent adaption of the manga and its slightly less annoying than the anime. So if you're a fan of gantz then this is still a must see.

Isn't the onion head guy his brother? Thats what the little onion said right before he exploded. For them not shooting right away. I took it as them trying to not take out the "real world". They ended up doing some major damage. The weapon had a delay between when it fires to when the target receives the damage, or at least when the 'ammo' hits an object. What I would have liked to see; would have been an trajectory of....whatever that weapon shot. But then again, perhaps it just happens to be the way it fired due to the type of weapon it is.

Other than that, I really enjoyed the movie and look forward to the next one. The jukebox alien was my personal favorite. Watch it sub titled.

I gave it 8/10 stars.

Man you hit the nail right on the head, it was so annoying. I found myself yelling SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT! at the screen so much and I almost never talk to movies

Yes! This is so true. At the start, I could deal with it; the characters were in intense circumstances and didn't really understand what was going on so there is room for that hole 'point and look scared for ten minutes' but then it just got annoying.

It really bugged the hell out of me, especially at the end, and after that final battle of lots of pointing and running and no real shooting, I was left angry and frustrated in a way that sort of ruined the whole movie.

Hopefully they'll get over that for the second part...

You guys know they constantly do that in the manga too, right? It's even more annoying there. Some of the later issues consist of nothing but characters aiming their guns and going "Ah..ahhh, hahhh, AHHHH!!!". Seriously.

In the beginning yes, but currently they're rockin and rollin in the series. Its more of a fast pace read now and I'm loving every issue of it. BTW thanks for the feedback guys, I thought I was one of the few who felt this way; I guess I thought wrong then.

If you mean the beginning of the current story arc, then yes, that's what I'm talking about. It's always been that way to some extent, though. Remember that invincible thing that just kept changing into something else every other issue and wouldn't die? Lots of pointing and panting in those issues. It's nice to see dialogue again, and you're right, it's pretty strong at the moment. I love that giant cat-rabbit thing and want one of my own...pleeease!!! *-*

Even if that's true, so what?

The director had the choice to be faithful to the manga and make a movie with irritating characters, or deviate from the mood a little and make an enjoyable film.

Guess which one they went with?

Just because the source material is one way doesn't mean you should follow it 100%, SPECIALLY if it makes you want to stop reading/watching altogether.

The helplessness of the characters ruined this film for me completely.

That describes many of the battle scenes in the manga perfectly. The film didn't really bother me in this regard as much as the manga did.

I watched the film free from expectations so I just kept wondering why nobody addressed the idea of shooting or at least waking up and unhooking the guy inside the sphere (Mister Gantz?)

Plus the not shooting at the targets was annoying.

I still thoroughly enjoyed it though.
