Its hardly orginal or new. Its loads of recycled ideas mised together and throw in a few gags. It's OK and the effects are better than most films like this but its just an excude for some characters to spendf half the movie drunk in the bar.
I was really disappointed having seen all these postive "reviews" but I guess the promoters have been working over time to get more DVD sales.
While not original or new, b monster movies with decent acting and special effects are few and far between. So they shine in comparison, especially to those of us that love monster movies.

I don't get the praise, either. I came here expecting a rating between 3 and 4, but 6.2?! The visual effects are surprisingly good, but that's it. The movie is boring, not funny, and it seems to take itself a bit too seriously. One of the two main characters is a drunkard for no apparent reason, and the other feels romantically interested in him, for no apparent reason, either. It is not even in the so-bad-it's-good category. It's just bad.
I thought is was very silly and quite entertaining. Maybe I have low standards compared to some of you but I'd recommend Grabbers to anyone who likes silly monster movies.

He's Irish. The Irish don't need a reason to be drunkards. I've a lot of that blood coursing through my veins so I understand that aspect. Outside of that one little criticism, I wholeheartedly agree with the rest of your critique. This movie was disappointing.

Yeah, no such thing as a social drinker in the celtic lands, we have social sobers instead.
"You're sober at this time of day, father?" "I don't touch the stuff on a sunday, now could you get your car out of the church. You're on top of Mrs Henderson." "Is that a car? I wondred why the feeling in my feet went."
