The Deep - DVD - get it for someone you hate!

Early Xmas gift for detested Aunts and Uncles, pre-order now!

<quote>With an all-star cast, including James Nesbitt, Minnie Driver and Goran Visnjic, this gripping thriller follows the crew of an oceanographic submarine as they search the deepest, furthest, loneliest place on earth.

In the state-of-the-art research submarine Orpheus, Captain Frances Kelly leads a team of scientists deep below the Arctic ice. They are following the path of an earlier, disastrous expedition; searching the final frontiers of Earth for unknown and remarkable life forms, attempting to find the solution to the world’s escalating energy crisis.

Enduring crushing pressure, boiling vent gases, freezing temperatures and total darkness, the Orpheus arrives at the Lomonosov Ridge, an enormous area of sea bed which is disputed territory, currently under the United Nations’ jurisdiction. Nobody comes here. But there is something else out here: something huge and bewildering. And, as the Orpheus crew struggle for survival and attempt to unravel the mystery, they uncover secrets more terrifying than they ever could have imagined… </quote>

LOL @ the exciting synopsis, if only the writer was involved with the original script!

A lesson in how NOT to write a TV series for a budding scriptwriter, perhaps..? Having said that, there are plenty of scriptwriters who make a decent living from churning out rubbish. But, I'm imagining a budding scriptwriter who actually wants to write really good stuff.

Did you know that "Oceanography" is a combination of Greek words for "ocean" and "to write?" You may be able to return the DVD as defective on the grounds that while there may be a preponderance of blue, there is a serious lack of anything approaching the latter. That heavy handed joke will shortly be followed by a statement of contrition from Minnie Driver's hair stylist. That is, if her white stick can be retrieved from the jaws of a somewhat irate (and rather large) Bullmastiff. I fear the beast may have been in a room while "The Deep" had been inadvertantly playing after episode one.
