I actually really enjoyed this movie?

I'm not a huge fan of the raunchy comedies. The Hangover franchise, most of Sandler's films, most of Apatow's films, McFarlane's films...I just do not find funny. The original Chevy Chase vacation movies are great, but this one had me roaring. I haven't laughed so hard at a movie in a long time, maybe ever.

The plot was bare minimum, the family just traveled from one joke set to another. There were a lot of references to the old films that were snuck in. I'm glad they abruptly ended the hot girl driving the convertible joke. That was one reference that would've grown tired quick (imo).

Cameos, references, and raunchy jokes carried this movie. Setups were sloppy at times. Probably my favorite joke was the whitewater rafting with Charlie Day, and that had one of the worst setups in the entire movie. Chris Hemsworth feeding the cow ribs was funny, but then they overdid it with several more cow-eat-cow jokes.

Probably the most unfunny joke in the whole movie was Chevy Chase's attempt at physical comedy maneuvering the guitar out of the cabinet. Probably ad-libbed, and pretty dumb. He followed that up with the hilarious Bob Dillon and Jimmy Hendricks lines though.

This movie is not liked by many, and I'll probably watch it again sometime just to see if I was wrong on the first watch.

If u are asking me if u did enjoy it i can say you probably didnt

sorry for the lack of clarity. The question mark demonstrated my confusion at the fact that most others didn't like it, while I did. Usually with modern comedies its the other way around.

The scene where Chevy Chase tried physical comedy by maneuvering the guitar out of that cabinet was truly cringe-worthy...you're right...he probably ad-linked it and thought it was hilarious is the really sad part.

reply

In my opinion, the truly "cringe-worthy" scene was when the "Rusty Griswald" (Ed Helms) character puts his face between that young boy's legs (Ethan Maher) on the airplane at the beginning of the movie!

Wow! Comedy today!

That was genuinely hilarious. The kind of bold, fucked up humour we don’t get now thanks to creatures like you.

An ultimately pointless movie but I have to say I really thought I'd hate it and didn't mind it at all. At least it was a continuation of the Griswold family as opposed to an outright reboot.

I liked what was in my garbage can too before I threw it away. Maybe I should taste the food on the bottom of the cans and boxes again to see if it was as good as I remembered. Sure, I liked it?

I read about this film having mixed reviews and wasn't expecting much when i sat down to watch it for the first time a few nights ago. But i did enjoy it. I would say it was entertaining. It's not anywhere near as good as the original movie (my opinion), but it's decent - if you're into "toilet" / "college frat boy" level humor.

I guess "Vacation" can be called a guilty-pleasure, like "Freddy Got Fingered" (2001) and "Me, Myself and Irene" (2000).

I actually thought this was pretty funny, think people are too serious nowadays for this kind of slapstick humour where as the child in me still find it hilarious.

Like many, I went into this not expecting much, especially due to the many failed recent re workings of movies, but much to my surprise, I loved it as well.

No matter how funny films are, I very rarely have a good belly chuckle and this gave me several. The Vin Diesel car flipping was a good one, daft moments kicking the tumble weed really got me going. I know people have grumbled about the Chevy scene with the guitar but I thought that was classic Clark and I smiled at it.

Like I said, I very rarely laugh out loud so to speak but this surprised me. So much so, I bought it at the weekend after watching it on Sky!

Oh, I must be planning on posting more if I've created this .....

I enjoyed it. The "pet" scene at the hot springs, can't remember when I have laughed harder. Good hearted in the tradition of the original movies.

They should have had the cops start making love at the four corners tho, LOL.

reply

I laughed so hard at that! "I don't know him." Lmao!
