Ribisi's accent

Just curious--what the hell was that?!

reply

The accent made him sound rather screechy.

In the commercials, he sounds like one of those white goobers that thinks if they talk like a black guy they will sound cool instead of like a jackass.

reply

He did sound really ridiculous.

reply

It sounded NOTHING like he was trying to "talk like a black guy."

LOL! Agreed. Such silliness on IMDB

Thanks. Hard to tell just from trailers what kind of accent it was. Wasn't sure if it was an actual accent or just something he pulled out of his ass.

is it just me or does ben foster kind of sound like ribisi with ribisis real voice?

He overacts in every movie, goes for too much intensity and comes off as trying too hard. His performance in this movie is no exception.

reply

The longer I watch this, the more irritated I get by his phony accent. It's just as bad as Juno's dad's phony accent.

reply

It was actually pretty good. Don't know if yall ever been to Louisiana but he damn there hit it right on the mark, and some specified "uneducated" I totally agree. No one else tried, they just talked in the regular voices.

reply

I've been to Louisiana a few times. It just sounded like he was trying too hard. It didn't feel natural.

I'm from Texas & my first thought was that he sounded like he was from Louisiana. It was weird, though b/c no one else even tried for an accent. I missed a little of the beginning (I have a 5 year old I have to keep entertained in her room while we try to watch movies with bad language) and I actually thought it was based in NY or NJ and Ribisi's character had moved there from LA until my husband told me they were all in NOLA. Weird...

i usually adore ribisi's acting - but i am from new orleans and we sure as hell don't talk like we have s**t in our mouth; i don't know why ribisi chose that particular accent bc it was just way off even though he was a prick thug - the whole accent was way off... all the other actors did well bc they didn't to the "cajun' accent which is only heard in the outskirts of new orleans -- like pierre port, vacherie, shreveport (some parts) just to name a few.

reply

It sounded like he was trying to act. Didn't work though. It was obviously fake.
