Movie was decent until... (Spoilers)

The total cliche Hollywood ending appears. When I thought Kate Beckinsale was dead I was actually applauding the movie that maybe it wasn't going the route of bad guy who lives happily ever after, but then the movie kept going and he magically finds her, she is ok and they live rich and happily ever after.

Before that the movie was entertaining, although you had to suspend reality while watching it, but still the ending killed it for me.

Definitely agree. It pissed me off that she lived. The payoff would have been much better if Marky Mark killed Ben Foster because of his ultimate betrayal. But nope. Ben Foster and the other dude only go to jail. Really really lame considering the extent of their terrorization of his family.

Very good point OP, I was somewhat on board but the end just blew chunks for me as well for similar reasons

reply

I totally agree with you! I was enjoying until this scene when we found out she was ALIVE omg .. bad !!

reply

Absolutely agree. It kind of ruins Ben Foster's reaction for me, too - he seemed to have just realized she died, and the fact that she didn't... meh.

the worst part about it is it could have had easily been explained to the police/ambulance any way. She had just suffered a head wound, it wouldn't come to any ones surprise if she had a misstep, fell and hit her head on the edge of the tub. When people get head wounds they can have bouts of dizzy spells, and it isn't all that uncommon for them to injure them selves further by trying to move around too much. That's why it's recommended that they sit down, but stay active mentally (so they don't fall unconscious).

As far as the door thing goes, just say you heard her fall, tried to open it, couldn't, and opened it by force.

reply

That's typical retard move by the Hollywood.
I don't care if they found her as long as she was blue in the face and rigor mortis had set in.

stupid movie.

Don't you guys realize that "Hollywood" does this because the masses demand it??

I'm not saying that I agree or disagree but the "happy endings" appease millions more than the thousands that want to see something different...

Dark endings are just as common now anyway. Having someone killed including the lead is not new or fresh anymore. Either way and some will not like it. A dark ending here would have hurt the fun of them ending up with a 140 million dollar painting. Take that little part out and her getting killed lands better for sure. Everyone loses that way.

They chose this way because they wanted 'the good guys' to land on top after being forced into this. Not every movie can work with a sad ending. I think it was fine here. Remove the windfall and dark would be good too.

Yeah. Probably the test audience didn't like her dying, so they shot another scene of her being alive, which really made no sense, first of all, why didn't Sebastian notice that she's still alive (he did seem surprised at the end... or he wasn't and he intentionally tried to kill her, which makes him even more of a prick, coward and fool), he had her lie around for a bit, so he should have noticed and secondly he wrapped or up in plastic foil, she surely would have suffocated, had she still been alive (let alone her injuries not being treated for hours). Of course the ending would have been dire, if Wahlberg lost his wife, just because wanted to help out his idiotic brother in law, but for the movie it would have worked better. The ending really cheapened the movie by a lot.

As a pure action flick, I wasn't too disappointed but this certainly dropped it from a decent 8 to a weak 7.

Those foolish enough to move from canada to america increase the average I.Q. of both countries

A "decent" 8? So this must be your scale:

1. Crap

2. Crap

3. Crap

4. Crap

5. Crap

6. Crap

7. Weak

8. Decent

9. Good

10. Excellent

Yes I agree with you all. Ending is not as good as we expect which spoils the entire film. By the way I found the replica jacket worn by Mark Wahlberg. May be you love it. Here it is:

The real issue there is there's no way he could have heard her cell ringing at that distance above the noise of truck engines, concrete mixer rotating and pouring.

reply

This film is a remake of Reykjevic-Rotterdam and - spolier - the same thing happens at the end of that, so it's just staying true to its source material
